The coming of the tribes (new society idea)

Postby niltrias » Sat Jul 04, 2009 10:42 am

Im sure that the next civ development is far off, but here is an idea for another type of society':

The Tribe

Village Idol Equivalent - Tibal Totem
->The tribal totem does not change the level of civilization. Or conversely, it could actually weaken the level of civilization
->Area of control is MUCH bigger than the village idol.
->Slight bonus to stamina/SHP regeneration within the AoC for all tribal members
->Authority regeneration speed is roughly the same as the Village Idol
->Authority can be increased by trading complete animal corpses to the Tribal Totem

Lawspeaker Equivalent - Medicine Man
->Healing -- Use Authority to heal HHP (expensive/takes time)
->Appoint War Chief -- Makes one tribal member a warchief. Up to 1/5 tribal members can be warchiefs.

WarChief
->Inspiring Presence -- The Warchief acts a Village Banner equivalent -- All tribal members in a small area around the Warchief count as being in the tribes ZoC. Activating this power, unlike the Village Banner, drains Authority points at a slow rate.
->Battlecry -- Use Authority to to temporarily increase accuracy and damage of tribal members within the Warchiefs ZoC. Short Duration, heavy Authority cost.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where the village model is currently promoting ownership and safety for communal goods, the tribe model would sacrifice this for increased hunting ability. When pathfinding is fixed, civilized hunters will find it harder to get boar, bear, and deer products -- so they can turn to the tribes to supply them. In exchange, many manufactured goods can only be produced by a protected infrastructure that the villagers can protect but the tribes cannot.
Instant trade, and an alternate way of life for people who want both to live in a group and to hunt.

What does everyone think?

i like the idea, but a society and village types, seems abit constructed.

maybe villages can have a "personal beliefs" slider, but for "community beleifs" that will afford the different types of soceity, such as one that is less civilized ect.

It's a great idea, but are we going towards a feral "barbaric" tribe or just calmer nomadic tribes?
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

Maybe both. Make a feral tribe system requiring a killcount to maintain, that way you can't have poser fags saying they are bloodthirsty barbarians.

Actually, I'm planning to change the formulae effecting the spread of civilization, such that relatively small amounts of civilization have more localized effects, but I have not yet been able to decide upon a good set of formulae to use*. Whatever I decide to use in the end, I aim for a situation where most smaller villages will find their hunting capabilities rather good.

* I'm currently playing with the though of having civilization radiate off in proportian to the square of the distance from the source, in analogy to all natural forces, but I'm afraid it will make it too hard for really large civilized societies to spread their radiance. On the other hand, that might be less of a problem, seeing how they probably have a larger physical occupance of the land as well.
