New foods: Ham and salt

Postby endriu » Tue May 25, 2010 12:25 pm

I used the search option but I couldn't find any thread talking about that, just some suggestion written in other threads, so I thought about opening a new one ^^

I'd like to have the possibility to tame boars and obtain pigs. Pigs will give a different kind of meat, which can be used for sausages or ham. This will be obtained by leaving 3 pieces of pig meat in a cupboard or anywhere, with salt, for a week.

Salt will be taken from mines. I heard that in places in which there were no seas, such as H&H's world, people used to find salt mines, then put some water in them, and wait until this would have been mixed with salt. Salt mines could be found like every other mine, with prospecting. Maybe they could just look like a hole, in which you have to put 50-60 liters of water, and wait 8-16 hours for the water to mix with salt and obtain a brine.
Then this brine could be put on a herbalist table in a bucket and, after a day, the bucket will be filled with 1/2 of the liters of water contained in it. (Example: 10 liters of brine => 5 pieces of salt // 4 liters of brine => 2 pieces of salt // etc.)
Obviously, salt was a difficult resource to obtain, and quite valuable too, so it shouldn't be easy to get.

Ah! And what about raw meat which, after a week you don't use it, becomes rotten and can't be used anymore? We could have a new recipe, salted meat, which allows it to last longer, two weeks or, who knows, a month.

Haaa. I want me's a pet pig plx.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Not so sure the process in general to obtain it is good as I can think up some variations in my head that might work better but Salt & Ham ftw.

Not a good idea to mention that last part. I'm worried they will start implementing stuff where food rots after x number of days which in reality it should but atm it doesn't. If such a feature was ever implemented I would probably truely quit H&H for good.

Good, good, and good. I hunt a lot and have cupboards overflowing with all kinds of meat. God help me if I ever got into plantation farming like some of you.

Mmm, bacon.
