Humans have been conditioned to be greedy via decades of artificial scarcity induced by our socioeconomic framework and the way we create money. Greed is a function of scarcity ... of artificially induced scarcity in our case.
I know plenty of people who only take what they need ... who don't see any point in hoarding anything. Just look at native American tribes and their Commons based economy ... if you take more than you need people will think that you are crazy within said culture. In our culture, we worship those who stockpile money and who own 5 villas ... and nobody is forcing us to do so ... nobody is forcing us to worship crazy and fearful (greed is a symptom of fear) sociopaths ... we do it anyway.
Soon, we are going to see a #basicincome as a normal thing and greed will largely disappear as our culture, value- and incentive system change dramatically. We are currently in the transitional phase from scarcity/competition/ego based economics towards abundance/cooperation/love based economics ... and the transition will become smoother with every person that stands up for socioeconomic alternatives.
