Usually I am ashamed of being American. But my rabble-rousing nation has taught me something well: you cannot tolerate dictators.
I was part of a village being protected from AD by New Arkandia. It seemed like a sweet gig until today. One of their winghats decided it was his right to shittalk to me and someone who I considered my friend, under the excuse of "you would do the same if you knew the shit they did to us".
We found this friend of mine dead in her house, leeched to death. So, although we will never know, she was probably a spy. Alright, fine. So we go about looting her property. I leave some scents. I am a known Gonff - thief - at my village. The winghat returns and gets all up in my face and threatens to kill me if I don't kowtow to him. I tell him to talk to my chief and to piss off. He gets another winghat to wreck my pali while my mates look on in horror.
I know what the right thing to do is. It is time to die for my village. Long story short, I leave my palisade, aggro winghat #2, get 153 wretched gore, get my sword for round two, and die a martyr to the liberty of my village.
The moral? Suspicion leads to anger, and anger to murder. If you sus a spy, please do not rough them up.
Or, alternately, do not have a police force at all. Be the police force.
As for myself? Never join a village that depends upon another village to be the police force. Arkandia claimed to protect us from AD. They have become even worse than what they claimed to fight. At least AD is not pompous, pretentious, and officious. At least we can plainly see they are our enemies. To me, anyone with a sword and a helmet is my adversary, to be disdained and kept an eye on.
