Claimed Caves

Postby DaJovialJove » Sat Oct 22, 2016 1:30 am

The only cave near my settlement is claimed. I have no idea who claimed it, or how active they are. I tried leaving a runestone message, but no reply was found. I'm not sure if someone is living inside the cave, but a log was moved there about a week ago and is still in the claim area. I have three options: 1. Leave it alone and get no access to cave, 2. Enter through trespassing and risk angering a powerful player, 3. Waste materials building a minehole above the cave and enter in that way. Any advice?

I would find another cave, if possible. If not, try to make your minehole far enough away from their entrance so that you have a chance to enter a new cave system. One that may or may not be linked to the one that is claimed.

If you have a pali wall up around your claim make a small walled off area with a mine hole in it and a locked gate. If they pop up through your mine then they can't bother you and will leave a useless trespassing scent. Once you clear a good sized space around where you end up wall that off too. Build a second mine hole to the next level. Rinse repeat. You can also have up to 4 personal claims (each one after the first costs 4k LP to start) and if you have a village you can extend the claim downward by placing banners(one every 2 IG days for every new level of mine) there you go. With claims and walled off and locked gates they can't do anything to you.

I wouldn't have a claimed cave that wasn't walled off but if I did and someone trespassed into it, the most I would do is track the scent to see where you were and then either befriend or keep an eye on you .. lol.

Trespass scents only last 8hrs, if you are really that curious, take a look, though keep in mind there may well be players who take exception to that, it may be they have walled it off inside anyway.
I wouldn't bother to make a mineshaft to get into it when you can prospect and make a mineshaft that actually leads to something worthwhile, mineshafts are pretty expensive.

I'm sure if you travel around a bit there will be another entrance somewhere, caves are pretty abundant in the world tbh. :)

If I'm not mistaken, trespassing skill not needed to cross a claim, so, if you expect some sort of revenge from the cave owners, you can build a wilderness beacon near that cave, create a new character there and go to exploring the cave without any worries.

@ Iva, it's not needed for a Village claim but you will leave a trespass scent if you toggle criminal acts to access a Personal claim, I would imagine this is just a small pclaim. :)

Of course you will. So, doing actions with an alt is a solution. ;)

^^ Oh yes, ofc, that is a good work around.

Was just making sure he knew there would be a trespass scent if it was a pclaim. :)

They could actually pop in, and as long as criminal acts are off, or they don't try to move or access anything with it on, then no scent is left. They can hearth out.

Another suggestion for this is to set up a village claim and you can extend that to below the minehole so it is covered below, too.
