Actually i thought much about this. I mean imagine everybody playing with Default client, this would be so much fun. Even thought about making enders as default, because its nice too. The only thing i dont like about the other clients is the botting.

I mean why do you play a game, when you bot half of the work, which is part of the game to do that work. That has nothing to do with "fun from the game" for me.

Pls jorb, think about that, at least disable any kind of bots, they destroy this game, just look at the mining tunnels from last world, hours and hours of straight bot mining.

Half the point of the lighting would be to make torch/candle consumption a thing, right, but as for atmosphere, dawn/dusk/night sprites for objects would work too. Eye strain is the killer, certainly.

Or just "hold lit torch, whole screen is lit", no sprites required, no eyestrain

The thing is bots show a developer where they might have gone wrong.

I used a few bots too, but only those I felt should be in the standard UI anyway. For example did Ken write a farming bot where instead of clicking every tile seperately you select an entire area and then your toon just goes and harvests it for you. This is how the game should handle farming anyway.

So while botting is something rather questionable it can at the same time be a great hint to the devs on what to improve.

Fyi you cannot just "disable" botting. If you could then I am sure the devs would have done that a long time ago. You have to either come up with good enough mechanics that botting is not necessary or with stuff like proper randomization that bots are a lot harder to pull off.

I am going to state this one more time. I. Cannot. Do. That. Even. If. I wanted. To.

I agree completely. The default client is terrible compared to Ender's. I use Ender's myself.

Here's what I noticed so far before even finishing my character, since my memory is vague enough to not be able to accurately point out what nagged me so much in the past.

    Login screen
      - Allow the pasting of passwords into the password field. Not only is this an extra security against keyloggers because you're not typing it out, it's just goddamn convenient.

    Action/Icon grid
      - Additional option to change the icon grid to QWER(T)/ASDF(G)/ZXCV(B), change the size from 4x4 to 3x4(5) to accomodate. Warcraft 3 tried the skill specific approach to hotkeys, it's painful to use when you have one hand on a mouse all the time. If you look at the current ARTS/MOBAs you'll see they all use QWERSDF and similar for their controls because IT JUST WERKS.

    Interface windows
      - When holding a modifier, do not allow windows to be moved. Alternatively, allow windows be moved only with a certain modifier. Alternatively also, make windows only movable with their title bar.

    Inventory
      - When holding shift, change the cursor to indicate it's going to transfer items.
        - Indicate which inventories are participating in the swap
        - Indicate which item is going to swap out with the mousewheel
        - Allow players to hold shift and the mouse button down to quickly transfer all the items over to the inventory
      - When holding control, change the cursor to red or with a cross to indicate it's going to drop items.

    Client
      - Resolution changes, seriously, why don't we have them?
      - Just remove the fullscreen option, it's broken as hell.
      - -x 1920 -y 1080 -windowed -noborder
      - Expandable/loose minimap, the minimap is so small and every custom client out there has a way to enlarge and move. This allows you get a more general idea of your surroundings temporarily and this would allow you to place it where you like it best.

Why not exactly? Is it not possible to add random events that interfere with botting?

Hmm, is there not even a way to prevent ppl from playing with other clients then the default one? I mean, with Ender as default and no others allowed we wont have bots, because ender dont have a bot engine (i guess at least).

There is always a way around silly client blocks.

Next you're going to say DRM is effective against piracy.

@Timo: You don't have to implement the bot engines into the clients. It is just something people did because it is convenient.

Well, I guess this is sort of UI - way too much stuff is represented as discrete items when it would be much more convenient as a substance.
