Nope. Both cabins and mansions only raise the civ rating very slightly to begin with.

What type of metal can I use to build this?

Will tin work or does it have to be the harder metals like iron and steel and bronze?

(I want to know before I go ahead and build the foundation because if it turns out I can't obtain the metal the foundation will then have to be removed.)

it should say in the building plans? If it says any common metal it's tin/copper/bronze/iron I think. Otherwise it should say Bronze/Iron/steel

Edit: Just checked for sure. It is only Bronze, Iron, or Steel.

smithy, if you have tin you can trade for copper to make bronze, or for iron.
