Dragon Pass, an Open City

What is the idea behind a "Open City"?
Dragon Pass is a settlement located in the Northern Kingdom that is open to any and all who would like to live in it. It seeks to combine the benefits of independence a hermit has while still retaining a large community to socialize and trade with. The city is organized in a grid of 20x20 (400 tiles total) and 49x49 plots (2400 tiles total) that anyone may claim as their own and live completely independently from the rest of the village, choosing who they trust enough to share their plot and resources with. Think of it less as a traditional village and more of a group of densely packed hermitages.

What does that mean in practice?
-There is no sharing of goods. What you cannot make yourself you'll have to trade for with the other villagers.
-While you can build a wall on your plot, there is no exterior wall to keep out non-residents. Therefor, do not expect the same level of safety as a normal village.

What are the benefits behind this?
-You can do whatever you want, so long as it doesn't harm other residents.
-A large plot of land to do whatever you wish.
-No duties or commitment, play at your own pace.
-Welcoming of new and old players alike.
-Equal say in the running of the village as a whole.

The Rules
Yes, unfortunately there have to be some rules, but they're pretty simple:
-Do not commit any crimes.
-Be respectful to others.
-Follow the plot layout.
-Any action that affects the village as a whole must be supported by at least 2/3rds of all plot owners.

Awesome! How do I join?
As we currently do not have a charterstone, there are a few options.

Option 1: Join the public discord and ask politely for someone to build a wilderness beacon for you to spawn at.

Option 2: Travel to the city with an existing character.
Dragon Pass is located at the very North of the map, at 8.5,-120.5. A good option to shorten the trip is to take a road to the community market, then to Akibahara and head East from there, or just take the charterstone to Aurora and follow option 1 from there.

Once you have arrived, any village member will be able to oath you into the village. In the central square there is a newbie dormitory open to all with some basic supplies to get you started. Plots are marked with a field cairn and survey flag. Anyone - even non villagers can build here until a claim is set up, so don't leave your valuables laying about.

We've been developing, and here's what's new

I'd like to expand on some of the ideas in the original post, and provide pictures of the settlement.

The Town Square
Image
The top left contains the newbie dormitories, where you can keep your belongings and get yourself started while building your plot or saving up for yeomanry. Theft is permitted here.
The bottom right is for community industry, housing the minehole, kilns and soon ovens, smelters, a windmill and various other tools. Be aware that theft is permitted in the entire quarter. The kilns etc are located in stalls where you can block the entrance with your character while your stuff cooks.
The other two unused quarters will be used as a market and communal area with a feasting hall, library, bank and public stable.

New Member Dormitories
Image
New players are given a log cabin to themselves. The key and dreams to build a hearthfire are in the crate next to the road. Build your hearthfire in the cabin, and teleport to it whenever you want to go inside. Whenever you are finished with it, leave the gate open and put the key back.

20x20 Plots
Image
20x20 plots should be enough for a single character to do farming and small industry. A minehole can be built should you need additional storage space. Each plot has a field cairn with a 3 tile border around the 20x20 square to allow for height variation. Anyone, even non-villagers have full permissions in this area, so consider getting a claim up ASAP.

There are currently no 49x49 plots designated, though they are designed for small groups of players to share or those who want to do large-scale farming with lots of animals.

"No crimes" rule is kind of a dealbreaker tbh
