So, not still going then, bit disappointed he gave up quite so quickly, especially when he seemed to be enjoying the game so much and is clearly an experienced gamer.

How about you, XDraked, are you still with us?

On the other hand, i'm betting other newbies tried fishing, it's not that realiable, learned that the hard way :|

My first 2 characters subsisted almost exclusively on fish for the INT, and I was never at risk of starving. You need to fish with leeches, and find out what kind of fish you are near. A little digging on the wiki helps a ton. Once you are in need of specific stats, you switch to lures. It really doesn't take that much patience, and I find it doesn't require alts, like most people. There's a hundred things to do on the internet, a simple alt+tab or dual screen setup and you're off. Also, a LOT of people stick with the nettle undergarments, forever. Just saying.

I was one of those nubs that started thanks to projared, and I'm happy I did. It's a great game, if you can even call it that. It's more like science; a sociological experiment. I have had my first real taste of pure, unadulterated dickishness in this game specifically by a trio of Russian fucks. Bring on WWIII, I say! Scorched Hearth, mother fuckers!

I'm sticking it out and rebuilding. While I almost exclusively agree with Jared's perspective on bugs/exploits, I do take full advantage of the tanning bug. Any other way is just silly. 8 hrs 40 mins + manual labor with anything but the most minimal setup is going to net you heartache. I have had a 16 tub operation going for a few days, and I need to be able to finish it asap, use it, then be prepared to drop it like its hot, now that I'm nomading.

Anyways! Just wanted to say that Jared's video is spot-on, and his tale of woe is a sobering addition. I hope it brings in more people with the right expectations, to replace some of the jaded 'buorgeoirsie' that seem to be shut-in anti-pop hipsters who are ironically in full support of maintaining a status quo of stagnation in this game, even though it's contrary to their "authority issue" mindset. As far as I can tell, anyways.

It's disheartening if you come to the forums too much, new players. As with all forums, there is a super active core, and a vocal minority, who care only about their ego and reputation, and then there's a bunch of honest folks (who will kill you if prompted, don't misunderstand) just enjoying their time in-game, and are the silent majority on the forums.

Very much so. The forums are all about bragging about your kills and raids but for the most part, players tend to not want to pillage every second of every day. Most people in the game just want to get by, harvest their crops, and survive like you do. =)

Congress is a relatively small part of the forums imo - most forum users just want to socialise on some level and discuss the game. I agree it can be a bit harsh at times, esp to newcomers, most cliques react adversely to strangers. Saying that, there are also a lot of players who welcome new people and are only too happy to help out.

The key to surviving the forums is low impact perseverance and a tough exterior, once you've been here awhile and providing you aren't a complete idiot, you will eventualy become part of the community.

There is so much more to this community than big egos, reputation and raiding! At least that's how I see it anyway. :)

Make a thread in the Dwarves and Thieves subsection to get the most attention for joining a village and maybe check out some of the threads there. Your post will be sort of hidden in this thread. =)

So much for a "flood" of new players. We are down like, what, 400 since a month ago? Must not have been to the nabs liking. :P

You can chalk another snare up to ProJared's video.

I'd never even heard of SeaTribe or H&H, and I'm not even sure how I first found his series of videos, but I began watching them from time to time. They're definitely very entertaining, to say the least. But this is a refreshing new-enough take on an MMO-type game, and I admit it's got me hooked so far. I've gotten killed more than once due to my lack of experience (stupidity), and normally I'm an impatient guy. But something about this game is just very charming and hard to put down, so I've kept at it. Still got a lot to learn, but that's the fun of it so far.

So I say "well done" to the developers, and keep up the good work.

Wow, tears of joy here. I can't believe so many new players are optimistic about this. Even if it's only 3. It's great.
Sometimes I wish nobody has the "oooh it's a noob kill him for the lulz" bloodlust.
