A temporary security measure

Postby Onionfighter » Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:38 am

Well, the alt would need the Trespassing and Theft skills (with regards to the latter, it's not necessary in order to steal items from inventories right now, but that will be fixed), so it isn't exactly trivial to create such an alt just to go steal something.

Since inventories are not secure, putting a line of baskets in front of cabins doors could prevent the less determined thieves from entering.

Would this work?
_____________
second house
______0______
first house
---------X--------
______0_____

A house inside a house?

0 = door way
X = hearth fire
----------- = drying racks

The idea was to make it harder to take items within the house by requiring the moving a basket to get in. (Thus requiring the thieving skill, and leaving footprints.) For these purposes, I don't think having one cabin inside another would help.

If someone was going to take something inside the house, they would already need to have the thieving skill anyways.

You could just have a house in a house with the hearth fire infront of the door of the inside one.....

Except that that doesn't work. When you build a hearth fire in front of a door, you can still go around it to get in. Only once you exit the house does the fire accomplish anything; it traps the player to the tile immediately outside the door. All you need to do to unstick yourself is log out, which would teleport you back home with any stolen goods you have in your inventory. This would actually be dangerous for the character that spawns at that hearth fire, too. Say a thief goes around it to get in a house, and then lifts a chest. He walks out of the house and gets stuck on the hearth fire, still holding the chest. He logs out, to be teleported home, and the chest drops down on your hearth fire. Guess what? You're going to be stuck on that chest as soon as you log in, and unable to lift it.

I believe Clayshire should be free now. PM if you're stuck.
