Are boulders of ore new to this world? I have found one and i don't remember seeing them before.

Oh, they've been re-added? They used to exist a long time ago but AFAIK they didn't exist in the last few worlds. Was this on the surface?

Nope i have seen them underground near uncovered ore vein.

Since the last part of W12, if you're mining, you sometimes get boulders. If you were mining ore, the boulders would be of that ore.

Was there previous mining nearby?

There's now a chance to mine out a boulder of the stone or ore you're mining when mining a tile, it was probably that.
