"There is no moral here"

Beyond the incomprehensible joy some folks take in ruining the game of another, less powerful and experienced, player (and recorded it for posterity, "look how I beat up on this stupid noob, destroyed his home, then killed him when he tried to escape). What had that player done to deserve such treatment? It is this sadistic aspect of PvP to which I take exception in this game. And it is events such as this that deter many from playing further; there is no welcome to newcomers, only wanton violence.

No need to castigate me, I realize I am alone in my sentiments. But I will continue to express my revulsion at such a mindset.

You aren't alone. But it's fair to say that Haven attracts of people who really enjoy griefing others. There aren't many games that let you permakill noobs in an MMO setting, and shit on their bases.

Spare me your pearl-clutching.

Less powerful, certainly — but hardly less experienced. It’s amusing your calling him a noob, given he’s been here since 2010, with over a decade more time spent in the game than I.

Tsk tsk, you younger generations and your inexperience.
There's an important difference between a newb and a noob. A newb is a new player. A noob is one who fails/refuses to learn. A noob can have played for a very long time but is resistant to gaining proficiency. Go ahead and ask CharGPT if that's a true statement.

That being said, your group preys on both newbs *and* noobs. The only time I've seen you in the wild you ran from a 3v5 where you had the numbers after spending 45 minutes chasing me in the no-kritter escape patch while I was solo, and I've never seen you at any contested objective, so it's hard to argue that you're willing to take a fight against experienced players without an overwhelming advantage.

Your highlight reel is literally just newb and noob killing. As far as I can tell you've never actually KO'd anyone with PVP experience (presumably you'd have put it in your KO montage), so this is a funny stance for you to feign offense at.

Let's take this a step further:
What do you gain by permakilling a powerless player? Nothing. You are already able to gain all the loot here. You only get the joy of having ruined someone else's experience.

What do you lose? You're robbing yourself of future content and making the world less vibrant.

It's a net negative, even for you personally, unless you're actually driven by the desire to goon over ruining other player's experiences. Hence my point in the above post: There's big attraction in this game for those kind of people.

Poacher Sinclair learned several valuable lessons for next world.

1.) Don't move your crap until AFTER the palisade is fully setup and 100% dry
2.) If you're gonna use normal gates, KEEP THEM CLOSED
3.) Store your Master Key in an alt that is ALWAYS offline unless changing locks
4.) DON'T rowboat around in deep water where there's likely to be undesirables
5.) And for God's sake park your Snekkja at a claimed dock

Honestly the drying times for claims and palisades should be better explained, either in the tooltip or visually. Probably would have delayed this guy's demise.

Ainran is the reason I decided to not be a shitter anymore in this game, cause they attacked every shitter in a 10 mile radius (me included).

Either learn the game or sit down, jesus christ.

I obviously am in favor of people being willing to learn the game and stand up for themselves, I've expended considerable effort to help others who are eager to learn.

That being said, I think it'd be better for literally everyone but the sociopaths if we stopped encouraging the straight murder of everyone in this game. There are plenty of 60 year old grandmas who are active players who I could not reasonably expect to get competent at PvP. The game is much better with these people than without them.

If the game had more mechanics that allowed meaningful attempts to punish players for indiscriminately killing others, I sure as hell would try. Unfortunately there really isn't much way to actually target someone for reprisal.

I have a really funny screenshot of Snail, Felix, Sheep, and multiple others, who camped my Snekkja dock for literally hours in an attempt to KO me, who ended up doing literally nothing but posing for a nice screen cap for my naked scout alt.

Sheep has bragged about camping doors in Rust for over 12 hours to get a kill. Not able to get me in Haven as easily, I suppose, lol

The larger point is that even if you want to kill someone who has at least a modicum of understanding of how to play competitively, you are not going to. This means the only people getting killed are the nabs, and it's pointless with the game systems as they are to try to change that, as you'll typically just waste a ton of time with no result.

It didn't always used to be this way. Before kritter escape and KOs, I met Bob Dole when I permakilled him after tracking him when he ganked some people. We became very good friends after. Times were different then.

"mechanics that allowed meaningful attempts to punish players for indiscriminately killing others"

Your first murder will permanently dock you 25 hp and 25 cons; your second will dock you 50; a third will cost 100; a fourth 200. Better be powerful, your sixth murder will instantly dock you 800hp and 800 cons. (These losses will not regenerate but must be restored through normal game play.) This will continue through the world and never reset; the only alternative would be to start a new character. This will only apply to unprovoked attacks. Possibly a fifth murder could give you a "serial killer" aura (perhaps a reddish glow, or an icon over your head), you may now be attacked any time anywhere by anybody and they will receive no penalties. Bring on the vigilantes.
