and LET ME ADD, in my useless rage, that (I just reread the PvP post) if it is indeed about "simulated" conflict resolution, or the real world, or anything like that, the idea itself of claims is stupid. Remove them entirely. And remove or reduce by 99% decay of items. A log house does not decay in a week irl. Irl if someone kills me
or my friend, if I want to burn their house down, nothing but fear of the law or reprisal or my own moral compass stops me. The law, in this case, being nothing more than an anarchic right to violence, like in the state of nature. I should be, then, more than capable of simply lighting fire to a structure and then leaving. And in that case, why shouldn't palis be handbashable? They aren't, anyways, bashed by hand, but rather by axes and pickaxes: like, uuuh, how wood usually is. Normally you don't need a battering ram to cut down a log of wood.
And also, in a "simulated" real world, a person does not have 2k strength (comparable to what animal? A mammoth or fuckin orca? Two silverback gorrilas?), or maybe even 200, cannot fight a bear unarmed, and is never and never will be functionally immortal. A sword is a sword, meat is meat, and their interaction is quite fuckin' plain. Even Achilles had a heel. Not so in hnh.
Last world the dude who taught me combat sparred with me. In a minute (It could have been 30 seconds, I didn't time it.) of allowing me to swing on him without him closing his openings, i produced maybe 100 damage. In ten seconds of him swinging on me, despite me closing my openings, he was the victor. In either case he and I used only 3 keys (and he 2): quick barrage, whatever the big damage move is for red that costs 3-4 initiative, and red defense. It is not, I maintain, mathematically or theoretically possible to defend oneself even when entirely geared and even with every possible advantage (assuming the one advantage you lack is the sum of agi, str, and mc/ua: as in, skill does not factor in to the game's formula). If I am the snekkja man and he is the canoe man, even if I back away using my speed to my advantage to close my openings, he too will do this, and better than I, and it will be a stalemate wherein if ever it came to blows he would still inevitably win. Therefore, there is functionally no pvp in the game. The inevitability of the conflict's one sided resolution precludes it from being, in my mind, pvp.
It's a farce. The entire game is built around keeping 300 4chan users subscribed, not simulating shit at all. The least realistic element of the game has always been combat, but christ, it isn't even close to being realistic at this point. It does, however, do well to simulate serfdom. For that I am grateful. I would not then be a serf if not for threat of death, and now I do not think I will voluntarily become one.
Notice how the pvp fanboys did not, at any point in this thread, address a single meaningful point regarding the state of pvp? If git gud means have a dozen alts, abuse game mechanics (like pretending to steal your own items to create gps tracking devices to be used for "pvp"), and acquire serfs, I'm good with not being gud. What I cannot seem to get these nerds to understand is this: You're not good either dipshit. Your character is a handout. You're the only one without a job in your village. You're a well-fed bum, not Achilles. Achilles, unlike you, was required by what is not simulated here (reality) to offer up to life a chance at losing it.
