FEP system does not support balanced diet

Postby theTrav » Mon Jul 20, 2009 3:10 am

The current FEP system rewards raising your stats evenly, which might make you think equates to a balanced diet, however what I'm noticing is that because I want to control which stat is raised to avoid being punished, I tend to eat only the one item (whatever is the highest FEP food for that stat) and eat tons of it, until I get the stat point.

I don't really have a solution to offer, I'm just pointing out, that eating a whole chest full of raising muffins doesn't seem like a particularly 'balanced' diet.

Maybe if there was some sort of bonus for having multiple colors in your FEP bar, or some sort of diminishing FEP return for eating heaps of the same thing (or both) that would encourage me to mix up my foods some more.

Or perhaps a separate bar for each stat.

edit: the benefit would be both having balanced stats and perhaps there should be diminished returns on eating the same food over and over, so eating only piglet wursts would be fine at first but with each few the FEP gain would shrink.

You know, this sort of "Balanced diet" might be very helpful for trade.

I'm thinking that you need vitamins from fruit that only grows in certain climates, and proteins from fish who only are found in the deep sea, etc. I like this idea!

That's it loftar, now you're going to have to implement a proper metabolism system, and a healthy foods pyramid so we need more grains and fruits than we do red meats, and heaps more than we need cakes and oils.

And make sure that certain things are found/grow in certain places!

We have toyed with the idea.

See my point in the other thread about saying you have essentially come up with every idea ever just so you can say that you have? It's leaning towards it honestly.

Not wanting to derail the thread, I think the FEP system works perfectly fine but there just isn't enough food per stat. Charisma for example has grapes, raisins, raisin cakes and bear salami, but nothing else at all.

INT has fox meat, fish, and fox meat derivatives.

None of them give more than 2 (purely INT) FEP. I lose sleep at night over this. No, really.

I do hope one of the cheeses is a magical smart cheese.

Remember that they HAVE been working on this thing for over a year, whereas most of us have been playing maybe a bit over a month... It stands to reason that they would have come up with a fair bit of stuff. Especially things that are basically "make it work like it does in real life".

In fact, I particularly mentioned this one because I was fairly certain that they already had considered it (because of the ridiculous cool but unnecessary and complicated factor)
