Some kind of fix for bears

Postby Zentetsuken » Tue Jan 18, 2011 5:53 pm

Okay so this is just a suggestion based on the fact that I died today by logging in and spawning basically right on top of a bear. By the time the loading screen vanished and the graphics appeared I was KO'd and 2 seconds later I was inevitably murdered.

If bears will agro you and ultimately murder you now, (assuming you don't have the combat skills to fend one off, you are not caught by surprise, you don't spawn on top of one or you don't experience any lag while near one), I suggest making them a lot more scarce or making it so they can't spawn in a much larger radius around claims, otherwise I can see this happening more often. Another idea is only allowing bears to murder when the combat is initiated by a player. It's kind of lame when a bit of lag or a slow loading screen can end up setting your efforts back a few weeks because a massive overpowered murdering machine agro'd and hit you during a lagspike or a load.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Animals don't spawn on claims, so I would highly suggest claiming a nice large area to keep them out.
Also, I highly recommend building your hearthfire within a house and spawning there. Bears can't enter houses unless you invite them in for tea.

Fear the bears. Just so you know, animals are a lot rarer than they used to be already, quite possibly due to the changes in aggression.

I understand that animals don't spawn on claims and can't enter houses, and I was not exactly out in the wilderness when this happened, I was still within the walls of my village it was just in an area that we had not stretched our claim through yet. I didn't even think to log in from my HF because I was still within the barriers of my town.

And as far as animal rareness goes, I really haven't seen much evidence of this, it seems that every few minutes somebody in my village is killing a bear or a boar and bringing back the body.

This is why I a suggest some kind of fix for how close they can spawn to a claim. I was about 100 tiles from the village claim edge, within palisades.

They're so cuddly, wouldn't you agree?

Build a fence around your area, then claim the area inside.

Bears and other animals are dumb, they can't see through closed fences.

Unless you piss them off, that is.

Hi everybody :)

This is an old post I know. Searching the forum I found here the answer I was looking for.

I need to know if it is possible for wild animals to follow me inside my claim, or if I am in the red radius it will sense me and get to me even I am standing inside claimed land. Im thinking yes.

And if they are to go inside my little piece of land, and I can´t make brick walls or palisades, is there anything I can do to make them stop coming to me?, or at least delay them, so I have enough time to enter my house?. IDK, I mean something like a ring of fires, or whatever you can help me with, or some feature of the game for noobs like me?.

This question of mine is because my claim is very small, so my doorway and HF are near to the edge. I don´t even manage OK the char´s movement. Yesterday a bear was on the back of my house and I could get in (logged 3 times in 2:30 hours and was still there), and just now a boar was about 20? tiles straight to my door and with no obstacles in between, I am afraid to go out and I don´t know the respawn time that would wipe him out.

Thx in advance to whom ever would be willing to teach me. ;)

Notes:
1- The red circle, I think is an Enders feature?, so thx for the client is awesome!. *This does not mean other clients are not, I just did not try them yet.
2- Forgive my english mistakes.

Hello, welcome to the forums!
I must smile at you searching for the answer to your question, but sadly must inform you that this question is more suited to be answered in the How Do I? forum.

Yes it is possible for bears to follow you inside your claim.
The red circle you see from Ender's client does NOT show the aggro radius, but rather is there to make you aware of the animal being there. Bears will engage combat without warning even outside the circle you see.
