Graves

Postby Shuffletrin » Tue Jan 25, 2011 4:01 pm

Alright, we all know someone who has died and their skeletion is just laying there unable to be used or anything.

So, we could add a couple skills
Grave Digger
Grave Robber (Explained later on in the post)

Grave Digger:
This would allow your character to dig graves for players who have either recently deceased with their stuff still being worn or a long time death and all that remains is their skeleton. If the body still has the items/equipment on it, the items will be preserved forever.

LP needed to get skill:
2000

Items required:
Bare knuckles (15 str required to dig)
(Optional)1 Shovel to dig it (Without using up a lot of stamina and only 12 str required)
10-25 units of soil (whatever sounds right to you Hearthlings) to fill it
20-30 stone (again, whatever sounds right) for the tombstone

Steps:
Graves are able to be dug anywhere on any terrain (Except mines and caves)
1. Use the skill "Dig Grave" on a 1x2 area to dig a hole
2. Collect resources needed
3. Use the skill "Lift" to pick up the body/skeleton
4. Right click on the hole with the body in hand (much like you would with a boat or cart)
5. Place body in hole
6. Start putting in the resources and build it
7. You can personalize the tombstone with words of hate or kindness (Like a Runestone)
Tips:
Try and set a particular place for graves, such as designate an area for a graveyard.
You can make the graves look nice by putting Poppy Flowers on them like you would for a table

Grave Robber
Skills required:
Grave Digger
Vandalism

LP needed to get skill:
20000

This skill would allow you rob/salvage the items/equipment from the dead in the graves that have been dug. If the body is still intact with the items it was buried with, then the robber/salvager would get those items much like stealing from a body currently that is out of grave. Also, the robber/salvager would get a percentage of the total LP collected affected by the Death/Life PB slider (Full Death: 30% LP regained, Neutral: 15%, Full Life: 5%). If the body was a skeleton when buried, the robber/salvager would only receive the LP.

Items required:
Bare knuckles (15 str required to dig)
(Optional)1 Shovel to dig it (Without using up a lot of stamina and only 12 str required)

Steps:
1. Stand near the grave (Right click on it)
2. Use the skill "Pillage Gravesite"
3. Wait about 30-45 seconds
4. Choose what items you want to keep, whether it be all or some or none.
5. Once the grave has been dug up, you can choose to re-bury the body or leave it to rot.

Tip:
If you would like to regain more LP/Items from your previous character (using ancestry making a new character), have a villager bury your body and make a grave. Get the skills needed and salvage the grave.

This has just been an idea I've had for a while and I've been putting it off posting it here. Probably not the most useful idea, but eh, there are many skills in the game that are equally or less useful than this. Please post your suggestions/likes/criticisms below and tell me what you think!

I'm sure it's been posted a good few times before already, or at least something very similar. I'd like to bury my friends/enemies?/ancestors. I'd prefer if there were a few different kinds of tombstones to select from for the sake of fanciness (wooden cross, generic tombstone shape carved from a boulder, etc.). It's been suggested that burying an ancestor's skeleton should give you numen points or something. I dunno about gaining LP by defiling your ancestor's skeleton.

Yes to grave keeping, yes to grave robbing. We should also be able to build coffins to put the skeletons into before putting them into the grave. Dumping a carcass in some ditch should haunt their ancestor, leading them to the crappy grave, and they should be able to dig it up without any criminal actions.

In that case why not be able to reseal a mine, making a mausoleum in the process?

Maybe we can just throw them onto a Funeral Pyre, something like the bonfire, and we all feast and remember them.

First something needs to be changed before any of this is possible. 1. Body decay needs to be slower. Right now it's like 3 Hours before body decays to skeleton. Theres no chance of someone stumbling upon the body if it's fresh, which should defiantly be possible. It should be something along the lines of a week before their skeletons. 2. Bodies should be liftable. It would make it so alt-bodies aren't abusable.

This just gave me the idea for a catacombs of sorts.

Idea:
You build a mine, get all the valuable minerals and stuff from it, and then have no idea what to use it for. Or just plain build a mine for no reason and the same thing.

Solution: Build a catacombs; have special stone shelves dug out of the wall, get crazy with the fancy tunneling, make it something that'd send Minecraft players into fits, and then use these stone shelves to store either skeletons or wine barrels (Cask of Amantillado, anyone?). Perhaps make a special option for "Make Catacombs" that will make it so that only the sealer (maybe people with Vandalism rights) could continue to mine there (of course, this would leave opportunity for griefers, so maybe a better system could be necessary).

Perhaps even give these alternate mines a bit of a creepy feel. You know, due to all the dead stuff in them, add to the ambience.

All thats possible with the current game mechanisms, isnt it? Mining and thus designing rooms is in, putting structures into a mine is possible and "sealing" just get a claim to the entrance. I hate it if people are crying for features to be coded when they could just use their imagination and creativity to get the things done they want with the current mechanics.

Humbaz, we're not crying, we ARE using our imaginations as well. There wouldn't be a way for me to have thought of this "mediocre" idea if I didn't have an imagination. I'm only trying to pitch in my thoughts on how to make use of those dead skeletons instead of having them just lay around like lumps in the road.

I just line them up in rows with a single runestone for a mass grave, or individual headstones for people I knew.

Danno, you're a genius.

The Devs should also add marble to the game, so we can build massive sepulchers for our dead. That'd be fucking legit!
