And its one thing to have tobacco and other to have hot air balloons... If you go by that logic we should also have tanks, cars or railroad.. but that is not the point of this game. I think it 'can' be implemented but unless someone gives a really really good reason to do it... I just don't see it necessary or more important than other stuff suggested on this forum.

No, if we go by my logic tanks, cars, and railroads would be excluded because these technologies require really advanced concepts and technologies like the combustion engine and the steam to work. Hot air balloons only require a constant source of heat. Even a candle would be enough to create a hot air balloon.

They are separate things but it's absolutely ridiculous to say that tobacco seems normal in this setting.

Dude, that's a brilliant idea. Candle + fabricy cover + strings = floating lights!

Air Ships (I believe I can fly!)

Postby AdmiralGreene » Fri Jul 15, 2011 8:20 pm

Tired of trying to get to your friend's village and having to take long detours because you don't want to have to lug your boat across long tracks of land to reach him? Well, why not build a hot air balloon! In my head this is how I think it would go:

Hot Air Balloon
Required Skills:
Carpentry, Boat Building, Metal Working, Basic Mechanics

Required Materials:
20 Wood Planks
40 Wood Blocks
10 Iron Ingots
4 Rope
20 Linen Cloth

Picture a row boat, but with a metal furnace in the back, and a large patched cloth balloon above the boat attached to it by 4 ropes. It would use charcoal for fuel, 1 charcoal for 2.5 minutes or so? It would basically not register things like trees/cliffs/rocks/buildings as objects and fly over them. 2 people could sit in it and it would have 2 item spots to put things in.

Pros: No more pesky route planning! Just get a heading and head that way! Also, it's definitely faster than crawling across land with a boat on your head. Also, what better way to attack bears than to drop stones on them from a height?

Cons: It would probably only go as fast as a hearthling's walking speed, and it has a high fuel consumption rate. Also, make sure to figure out how much coal you need to get to where you're going, because once you're up, you're not going down until the fuel runs out. But make sure to bring extra fuel just in case, because once you run out, you will start falling, and then you can run into things.

I might add more later, but right now, any questions, comments, critiques? This isn't really a OH MI GOD YOU HAVE TO PUT THIS IN THE GAME RIGHT NOW! kind of change, just something I think would be cool to implement.

I don't think this could be implemented, for the same reason that bridges could not be. The game is programmed around objects, and as far as I know, creating objects that pass through other objects conditionally probably could not happen. You'd need to implement another Z level above the current top level, or something, and I doubt that's likely to happen.

I don't see much merging.
