There must be a reason because of which it hasn't been fixed.

devs are not infallible you know, they may have simply overlooked or forgotten it for the last update

With the sheer volume of threads dedicated to this problem, I doubt they could've missed it.

most of the furor was after the update. who really knows how much time devs have to work on h&h anymore, let alone read the forums

IMO they should have nerfed buckets instead of mining, mining leaves less residue and actually takes some effort.
