Haven mobile?

Haven mobile?

Postby TimmyGudge » Sat Feb 26, 2011 5:58 am

I use my iPodtouch allot and thought it would be cool if maybe if they had a Haven mobile. If you would put it up on the app store or even a demo for cell phones it would increase the player by a ton. I know this is easier said than done but would be amazing! Even if it's not the full game, or maybe if it's a handbook or downloadable wiki I believe that this would be a great project. What do you think?

If by that you mean it would increase the player base by a ton, then no. The last thing this game needs is a larger player base on a small map with even more lag.

Minecraft made a mobile version of their game. all they did was take all the textures and models and make it for a touch screen. It's hard to do but just a little easier than you might think if you already have all the materials in front of you. Plus, I'm not saying it has to be full game. it could even be a guide book. In no way did I have to say the creator have to make it, look at the mobile Minecraft, they got permission from the creators and made it. it's the same thing for this.
its just an idea.

Ok well lag may be an issue but a larger player base will open up more opportunities for the game like, different servers/new worlds, different events i don't know, use your imagination. Anyways these people that play on their mobiles won't cause any lag to us at all because it could even be an offline thing. I'm just trying to make discussion and thought that this would be cool, even if there might be all these technicalities it's just an idea.

The client source is out for the public to see/modify. If you feel like you want the game on your Ipod/phone then recode it all in whatever language the Ipod/phone requires (C Obj right?) and release it yourself.

-1 to different servers/new world. I'd rather play against everyone than only play against a small population of people and have the rest spread out over many servers...

You do realize there's plenty of technology that incorporate instances so everyone can still be in one server right?
Many game developer barely scratch the surface on some of the technologies...
Like lowering polygon use per triangle to optimize 3d models of stuff far away...
Or rendering long distance models into a "paper sprite" that renders as the player goes near it.

Wolfire is great at discovering ways to develop a game without hashing and cutting out stuff, and they've been in alpha for a very long time with Overgrowth.

In a perfect world that would be great, assuming that is that all the new players decided to donate as soon as they started playing. The server is funded by donations, I doubt even a fourth of those possible new players would donate a cent to help the development of the game.

If so, you guys won't really have much of a server after a while, because having your player base rage quit on you after bad experiences isn't good for public donations.

Don't worry, the rage quitting noobs are not the ones who are donating.
