Personal Beliefs- Inheritance

Postby Serpensio » Sat Mar 05, 2011 6:31 pm

Keep the Tradition/Change Slider the same as the character you inherit from. If someone with Full Change Dies, the inheritor keeps Full Change, if someone with full Tradition dies, the inheritor keeps full Tradition.

All the other sliders stay the same, and you already lose 75% of all stats and LP when you die at full change.
It's a Huge pain trying to grind your LP back up to where you were when you died to restore your skills and stats to an acceptable level (as a Newbie/intermediate Player who doesn't macro or pure grind just to reach "Super Uber" Stats and Rage).

Do we REALLY need a forced Time grind as well, to slow that progress down even more? It'll take days of casual play just to get back up to full Change, all the while your stats are lacking, and you get poorer quality items from your higher quality stockpile while trying to do basic activities.

Resetting the Tradition/Change Slider to Neutral for an inheriting Character only hurts newbies and casual players, preventing them from even doing some activities they worked hard to be able to achieve with just moderate decency (such as Hunting). Those who grind, macro, or already have huge amounts of LP and/or stats (>100 stats) are hardly set back by this at all. Their efficiency and quality may take a bit of a hit, but it's still tons better then the average newbie player could accomplish.
Effectively, this does little but broaden the gap between the "Rich" and the "Poor", or the "Elite" and the "Newb", and removes most everyone in the middle, causing an stark imbalance in power between players.

Please change.

(Yes, I died on full Change. Yes, I know I chose to risk it. Yes, I'm fine with losing 75% of all my LP and stats. No, I don't think I should be punished so harshly for dieing due to LAG. No, I don't think I should have to wait until I can bring my Farming back up to 20 (from 7) just so I can harvest my field full of Q20+ crops. And No, I don't think I should have to spend 3+ days of casual play just to get my MMS up to 10 (when it was originally 21) so I can Hunt again.)

/agree
Also, everyone goes change - do we really need that slider?
Read a guide for newbs today on one of the boards, and it told to wait some days(!) in a cave before actually beginning play(!) to gain change/peaceful. While it`s possible to play w/o that...it`s a pain in the ass. And when you have to wait before actually playing from the beginning, that`s a bad sign - isn`t it?

The root problem is that you can bypass LP loss just by grinding it back up..

Death is supposed to be the end of one story and the beginning of another. Implemented as it is, it's just an annoying few hours/days of grinding to "get back to where I was".

New Chracters should just be able to set all Sliders to desired values while in the Spawning Cave, no reason toe force them to spend days waiting or suicide themselves refetedly.

A solution to that is just make the meter have to charge up before the first tick is possible instead of giving new characters a "free" tick. I think that would also help newbies out.. I hate that one of the first things out of my mouth to a friend who just joined is "move this one slider you have no idea what it does a tick to the right".
