I like point I, infact I think Devs are already going in that direction, Doll is 1x2, Seer's Bones is 2x1 and SandCastle is 2x2 all crafted Curios. Large size is certainly a potential balancing factor that can used to mix up things. It seems the large Curios are Newbie Curios and their size isn't detrimental to newbies cause you run out of Attention before you run out of space, but at higher levels I could see all of these Curios being shunned simply because of space inefficiency.
I do not like point II, or atleast the proposed mechanics of how they would work. Modifying LP gain could be a hastle as the gain is all at completion and the player would be juggling timings to see that the bonus providing Curios dont complete before their intended targets, also the player is going to constanly be unsure if they got the bonus or not when offline. Quality damage that happens silently sounds really unfun, more of a trap for people who haven't memorized every such combination. Make it as simple as possible, Synergies result in Double speed progress, Antergies result in blockage ware the oposing Curio can not be placed in Study at the same time. In both cases the effects are symetrical so if X and Y have synergy they are both accelerated, and if A and B have Antergy then having either A or B in study blocks the other one.
