Harvest hair from slaugtered auroch

Perhaps a buffer to make it a little less lethal? Perhaps aurochs will get agitated and break your gathering once, possibly even hit you once, but desist after that. If you try again on that auroch, they'll all proceed to maul you to death. This way it's still dangerous and you get punished for bad luck but it's not a huge Fuck You.

Perhaps a mid-cost "shearing" skill that comes after husbandry that allows for hair pulling and sheep shearing?

The issue with that is it's free to get an alt their first ~3000 lp. This skill would have to be painfully expensive just to get hair.

A wield-able shearing tool that has a tricky prerequisite for use? Basic mechanics perhaps?

We could move the ever vital Rope recipe elsewhere and have animal husbandry cost a lot more. I mean it's not exactly something low level players use early on beyond the rope anyways.

So you just have your main there to hand off the shearing tools to the alts. Taming is childs play to do even on your first day playing. Attaching an arbitrary lp cost to shearing or tool requirement isn't the solution and won't even inhibit the use of alts to shear.

Maybe a shearing option if you have access to a cutting tool, and the success of it not aggroing is greater if you use sharper and higher quality tools...
Just because shearing hair off of them doesn't aggro, doesn't mean that the success of getting that specific rare kind of hair is high.

Maybe change the item to "Golden Auroch Hair" to show this?

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that if you kill an auroch and then try to pull hair it can't be done.

Or you can just fence them all in and only have to worry about 1. Orr... you can fence them all in and stand where the fence would close the auroch in so that it can't chase you....then you don't have worry about any.
