Ambient Sound

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

Ambient Sound

Postby chaosovum » Thu Mar 24, 2011 10:29 am

I love haven & hearth even after the new lp system, but I still have, and will continue to have 1 gripe. Where's the sound? Would it be possible to add in some ambient sounds? crickets at night? Water sloshing when we boat? Different walking sounds for different terrain? Wouldn't adding sounds be one of the easier things to do? Moos from Auroch? Chickens clucking? Agghhhhhhhh Please add some sounds! My only experience with developing/designing was with a Neverwinter Nights 2 server but it was pretty easy to add ambient sounds and they added a TON to the game.

That`d make hunting way easier as well as travelling at the wilderness would be much safer. "Damn, someone is nearby, jump in the boat!"

I've suggested this to devs in chat before, can't remember what their response was. I suggested they use something similar to the system from Neverwinter Nights, where sounds were given a radius tied to objects and creatures. Ambience can really make the world feel alive, be nice to hear for instance the windchimes from world 2

I've replaced the music in some games using Audacity with sound effects I've gathered from various games and sites over the years (ex. http://www.soundsnap.com/taxonomy/term/345 http://www.soundsnap.com/taxonomy/term/288 )

Can we do it by ourselves, btw? I mean, it`s not hard to tie music/sounds to some events.
