Mine Mechanisms

With a few new mine hole graphics, I think Z-level interaction could have some new options added.

Mine holes: expand the way mine holes can behave

  • Standard ladder mineshaft- Make the current, ladder based mine hole the default, but make the ladder retractable. When the ladder is retracted, people will know there is a mine hole either by a different ground graphic, or by the light coming from above. Optionally, make the ladder destructible.
  • Stone staircase- operates similar to the ladder mineshaft, but cannot be retracted.
  • Elevator- Anything on the elevator space is teleported to the other z level when a switch is activated. This could include chests or carts. The other level should be clear for it to work, but there could be an additional ladder for people to use.

Authority Objects

  • Have an authority object that creates authority in another level. This could work by having authority objects connected to mine holes or cave entrances. Once the object is built, both sides of the mine hole or cave entrance are covered by village authority, and the village can expand in the new level by using traditional authority objects. This object could be represented by a big chain or rope that connects the areas, or maybe a pair of mirrors, or linked flames or something else.

especially the claim on different layers, that is a must.

also, on the topic of mines... is it possible tobuild a minehole UP. because that should be added to.

e.g. a village has pally'ed inside their mine, so you mine under it then come up around the walls

Elevators seem like another anachronism, but the ability to get cows and wagons into mines would be pretty good

Seems promising, I presume the Stone staircase cannot be destroyed unlike the Standard one where it can?

with basic mechanics, animal husbandry <for rope> and metal working, you should be able to make a pully instead of elevator, that is operated from the top by one man...or in realism one at top&one at bottom.

have it like a platform thats half the size of a raft so carts can get down, but probs not wagons.

Sounds like a good solution, would it expand from being a pulley that can only take certain items to a full mechanism capable of much larger hauls?

though the OP and general public might disagree. i'd have to say no. probably keep it at say 2 spaces, so you could fit 2 carts, or possibly one wagon, something like that.

although i said that prolly not wagons because it would be slightly to big, and make things uncomfortable unless you have a REALLY BIG mine, it would be practical for a long days mine, storage for food and lights to keep going
