have it like a platform thats half the size of a raft so carts can get down, but probs not wagons.

Sounds like a good solution, would it expand from being a pulley that can only take certain items to a full mechanism capable of much larger hauls?

though the OP and general public might disagree. i'd have to say no. probably keep it at say 2 spaces, so you could fit 2 carts, or possibly one wagon, something like that.

although i said that prolly not wagons because it would be slightly to big, and make things uncomfortable unless you have a REALLY BIG mine, it would be practical for a long days mine, storage for food and lights to keep going

I was just exclaiming the idea for a full mechanism to give something to look forward, the pulley would've been the cart and the wagon for the full mechanism. Though the system can just be managed like you said with a pully hauling 2 carts or one wagon.

A pair of elevators could serve the same purpose as a bridge, could be used to build roads under mountains, or even create a kind of subway system for a large village or group of villages.

I would love to see a pulley/elevator/whatever mechanism.

I'm imagining is a platform that functions like a raft. You board the mechanism similar to how someone boards any other vehicle. When you right click it while you're on it, the flower menu has the options of using the pulleys to move up/down or loading an object onto the platform. When you choose the Load from the flower menu, the "lift" cursor comes up (just like when using a raft) and you can load animals/carts/wagons.

that way is good but could also work like <again in realism>
you simply drive/pull/carry your load onto the pully, (which id imagine would be akin to a raft)
then, if the shaft/platform is at the top you go down the aforementioned stairs/ladder to pull it down, or vise versa.

the shaft/platform wouldnt have any actual loading spaces you just have to position yourself in the right way.

also @ onionfighter, your saying about roads under mountains made me think of this.
what if we were to have those train like pully wagons that the real miners used. except modified for H&H like having a train line of maybe 5 containers that is pulled along by a cow, to carry supplies. <again realism> man i gotta stop that

All that clicking, and the boarding limitations are one of my annoyances with rafts. Just make everything on the platform teleport to the other level.

if you are just porting it, then a much easier solution would be to let Xroads port your cart or wagon and anything you are attached to... unless im mistaken the fact that Xroads can be built in other layers.

the idea is cooler and better if its done manually.
