Are you complaining about having to make multiple characters? You realize that pretty much everyone does this even if you are in a village.

Why not a system like elder's scroll's? so when you would cook a lot, you would get better at cooking?

You could go play Darkfall. This is how their system works. If you ask me, it's too skewed to the no-life gamers. In fact, this is how all previous worlds worked, except you got general skill points, not just points in the skill you're using. In fact, we don't have that system because bots borked it. Also, don't items just have one quality in games like Darkfall? (Haven't played any of the Elder Scroll games since Arena. Crap games are crap. Same goes for anything using that crap engine.)

Now, what does grinding out skills have to do with the quality push? This game is designed around the balance of skills and quality. Look at a mathematical analysis of quality:

q40 is 2x better than q10. q90 is only 1.5x better than q40. q160 is only 1.3x better than q90. Do the differences add up? Sure, but the grind from q40 to 90 is usually long. The grind from 90 to 160 takes forever. The one big cap in all of this is the clay. He who controls the clay controls the universe! (Sorry for the Dune reference there :P )

I honestly quit looking for one or two point increases in quality around q30-40 because of the lack of return for time invested. If I do have the spare materials laying around (bear bones, etc), of course I'll go for the one or two points if it will net me a slight increase. (No point in going from a q110 to q112 saw... no increase in board Q from a q10 tree, and the increase is erratic on grown trees.) I plan on the increases that are going to net me real returns in terms of the bonuses granted.
