OP has a point, different scents should have different mechanics. Murder should definitely be summonable, but not the others.

And why the hell not? IMO it's much more damaging to have your place ransacked than to have your character killed.

In the old days theft was punished harder than murder. You could always murder in justice or revenge of a murdered family member of friend, but nothing prompted you to steal.

This and here we could start to argue. Which proves the point that justice should be carried out by the players and not by the system, thus leave the scents as they are or overhaul the system completely. Changing it so that theft isn't summonable anymore is horrible though and everyone proposing that must have had a brain surgery gone wrong lately.

So what's the ideas for overhauling the system?

Should someone start a brainstorming thread where ideas can be at least voted on without it devolving into troll wars?

There are way better improvements that could be made to this game. So whatever.

Just don't steal unless you can defend yourself.

I agree. I'm perfectly content with the current solution and really can't think of any ways to make it better myself. Heck, in my neck of the woods, we still consider it 'legal' to hang horse thieves. (Haven't hung one in a hundred years or more, though, that I'm aware.)

Still, the criminal system could use some work. Maybe someone will come up with something easy to implement. (doubt that) I wouldn't have a clue what to change myself, as I like the fact that we can deal harshly with those that would disrupt things.
