My simple fishing overhaul..

- The higher the quality the equipment, the higher the softcap on the quality of fish you can catch (same as the current system)

- The better equipment, such as gold hooks and high-tech lures, catch fish faster

- The only thing that determines which type of fish is caught is the location of the node

So here's a few examples to see how that would work in practice:
Player J sees some fish jumping in the middle of a lake. He goes fishing with a Ql 1 bone hook, Ql 1 taproot and Ql 1 woodfish. It takes him a long time to catch 10 perch, which are low quality.
Next he goes fishing with a Ql 1 gold hook, Ql 1 silk thread and a Ql 1 Steelbrush. He very quickly catches 10 perch, which are low quality.
Using the same equipment as the last example, he fishes in a river. He very quickly catches 10 pike, which are low quality.
He goes fishing with a Ql 100 bone hook, Ql 100 taproot and Ql 100 woodfish. It takes him a long time to catch 10 perch, which are high quality.

Would be way too easy to get Q 100+ fish then.

It certainly does seem a lot simpler than the current system. However type of fish caught is also currently dependent on the moon phase, which I think is something that should be kept in a new system.

No, this suggestion wouldn't change the quality system at all. I didn't say the fishing equipment quality determines the fish quality, just that it would be a softcap on it (the quality is still determined by the node).

So what's different than the current system other than a particular lure will catch any type of fish?

If you use fresh bait--worms, leeches, intestines--you catch the two types of fish in a node that are the 'standard' for that phase of the moon and location. By using lures, you can try to catch something different.

Fishing should be even MORE of a mindfucking mystery, not less of one.

As it is IRL we barely know what the fuck we're doing today, fucking running fish into extinction because we have no idea what their numbers are.

+1 to this!

Oh, we know what we're doing these days. Problem is some people see $$$ before long term sustainability.

Being the direct cause of running any species to be extinct should be means to be hung. Put it up there as a form of 'treason' and let us all watch, it'll be fun.

If you were ever able to make any fish extinct ingame I swear I'd hunt down anyone who did this.

Perch would probably be extinct by now.
