Lag is holding this game back

Postby Acanthus » Fri Jul 01, 2011 4:47 am

I'm submitting a critique on a part of the game, as you can probably tell it's regarding the horrible amount of lag one gets when playing it. This needs to be fixed, I don't know if the servers are over capacity or if it's just a matter of distance (I'm in Mexico) but I do know it isn't my computer, I've played this using Ender client in internet cafes and I get the same problem.

The main problem this causes is with combat, if you're plowing a field and the game lags so bad that you're completely booted out and have to log back in, okay, no problem the field is still there you can keep plowing and planting crops. However if you're hunting game and the server decides it needs to take a shit and you're the guy it's shitting out, well now you lost a damn fine hat or some armor or, in the worst case scenario, your life.

This can't continue happening, I get booted off the server on average 6 times per session, half the time I'm not even doing anything more strenuous than walking out my gate. Just now I got killed by a bear because aggroing it seems to have caused me to lag out (no I'm not complaining about LP loss nor am I quitting), the server quite simply needs to be upgraded for this game to reach its full potential. If it's a question of money, then more people need to donate and this post becomes a critique of the community being stingy and not donating 2 dollars each.

The problem seems to be more on your end. I've gone through fields of crops taking up my whole visual range and have yet to be Logged out. And I have the shittiest computer in the world.

Try the lag they had at the begining of world 4 or was it 5 I can't rember; back than lag spikes were constant at peak times and the game was barely playable for everyone. Really it seems to be your location is the reason why your having so much lag i think the server is in Germany.

It could be on my end, but it's doubtful, as I said I've played HnH on other computers as well with the same problems, but if nobody is experiencing the same thing then it can't be the servers, what the devil could it be then?

And yes, I remember the lag in W4, I'm experiencing something very similar, not quite as bad but still pretty bad.

There is lag from time to time, i dont think ive ever actually been disconnected from the game asides for crashes

There is little or no lag, op is a retard. Try turning off dwm.exe in your system menu.

Ah, cut him some slack. He's obviously not making up his problem.

I'm not sure it's a problem with the server per se, though. I have no clue what our rountrip pingtime to Mehico looks like, but it might be "like crap".

I'd have to agree with you, but he's

A) blaming the servers for his problems without thoroughly investigating his end and
B) missing the point that, hey, it's a free game in an alpha state.

OP: I used to be pretty good with the network troubleshooting, but too many years without use and too many psychiatric drugs have left me with little knowledge anymore or the brain power for it. I'm sure there are some around here that would be willing to help you resolve anything on your end.

being in texas, i don't think it's a function of distance, rather of routing. i recall a pretty serious issue for canadians a while back (frequent boots) that had to do with a certain point that the isp was routing through.

try doing some traceroutes and see if you're dropping packets.
