Time... time

Time... time

Postby Peter » Wed Jun 10, 2009 6:06 am

I work for eight hours a day. I travel for about an hour or a half more, sleep for nine (I wish), eat for two, and read, etc. for annother four and a half. That gives me negative one hour a day. Luckily I can skip one or two hours of sleep and norp has nanny snideeffects! So, I'm present for about an hour every 24, give or take.

Unfortunately, that means that I can't grow trees, because they all die before I log on again, and really, anything more than 10 minutes long is pretty much going to take me 24 hours. Really, I don't have any suggestions other than me quitting my job to take care of this.

I'm mostly wondering about how many hours most other players can spend. I suppose that it's useful to have that information, anyway.
And I suppose that I can join a group, but then the problem is I can't contribute as much as someone who just has to ignore some homework or something.

Well, life's tough. Can't games be nice about that?
Surprise.

yea, there is a limit on certain activities if you want to see the start and finish yourself, but its not really a problem if you join a village, which i suggest you do. In that hour you could however, accomplish a lot to help a town, you can bake or farm or hunt or mine quite a bit in that time. You could build quite a stretch of road if your towns into that sort of thing ect. While it might not seem like your helping as much as others, even someone only doing a hour of one of those activities would be appreciated in my village[laketown] and certainly many of the others as well.

For the moment, I suggest moving somewhere where you won't need to grow trees :) Not saying joining a village is a bad idea, but you have to weigh the positives and negatives.

I've yet to grow any trees so I don't quite know how the system works, but I do think anything involving required logging in at specific times needs to be eliminated as soon as a better alternative can be found. It would be unfortunate to fall into the common MMO trap where players with limited time to spend playing are often wrongly tagged as 'casual' players, who miss out on things that could probably be designed to cater for them because it's believed they have no real interest in them.

Most villages will accept you if you're only playing fairly infrequently, LakeTown would certainly be pretty forgiving, one hour a day isn't nearly as small a period as you'd think, you could do a lot of mining/baking/harvesting/road building/hunting in that sort of time span.
Now that we've got coins in you could even start doing small quick jobs for a few coins or so and save up enough to buy a freshly sprouted apple/fir tree and then you could do the planting.

The same applies for just about all the longer things you may not have time to do yourself, just pay in coin.

I feel your pain in many ways though, as I can only play for fairly short stretches outside of work, and I can't take too many weekends off for the game. I still feel it's possible to enjoy it in those times though
