Metal that is in coins is metal that could be used more productively. This is why I think it's important to implement ability to mint unique coins. I want to overvalue my coins to cut down on essentially unproductive work (less coins of higher value do the job just as well as more of lower value), make them more convenient to use (the less you have to carry the better) and maintain some control over my coin supply through disincentive to melt them (you lose value if you do so).

I also think that there's a whole lot of new gameplay that could come from it. Being a forger (of both coins and art) should totally be a profession in H&H. Ability to establish your own currency as the world's dominant one would open a whole new chapter of economic PvP (this status depends on trust, so you have to work on maintaining stable currency while undermining the competition). The rewards for this would of course be great, as you could easily mass produce coins to create wealth for yourself - just don't overdo it or your currency will collapse ;) And this uncertain market would be a perfect environment for speculative traders - just imagine all the delicious drama we'd have if we had a Black Tuesday in H&H.

I think what you describe in the first paragraph was part of the economic problems of the middle ages up through around the 18th-19th century. (I'm not an expert here, so please feel free to inform me of why it isn't!) The kingdom would try to overvalue their coin, and so it hurt their trade as everyone else wanted an equal weight of silver or gold.

I'm all for more economic pew-pew!! One of the greatest things I love about EVE. I think the economic shenanigans drew more press than anything else in the game.

Nobody uses vending stands because you can't list half of what you want to sell in them. I've got anvils rotting because I can't be bothered to list them on the forums to sell. (Might list the one I just replaced, though, as it's of decent Q.) Bet people could sell a bunch of metal plows and such, too, if you could add them to the stands.

I've thought of something like this myself. Branded coins.

I'd suggest, it to be like: Whenever the LS of a village is using the coinpress - the resulting coins are branded and carry the unique village identifier (I assume there is one, right, Loftar?) which is normally displayed as a village name. But since coins are associated with the identifier, not the name, coins with the same name, that come from different villages simply would not stack.

This will add spice with faking, checking for fakeness by comparing(trying to stack) with original, looking for fake-forger's hideouts(fake villages of the same name), and, the most important, it IS easily codable and resource efficient, compared to giving names and codes to each coin.

For now i'm leaving vending stands out, as i think of coins as of a trader-to-trader measure. But if it comes - vend stands would either accept only real coins, comparing by identifier(clearly codable), or both real and fake, comparing by name, but in this case i dont know how they would not stack inside the vend stand.(requries more efforts in overhauling vending stands)

PS: Coins should be meltable anyway.
PPS: and you'll still be able to make blank coins as they are, by not being the LS.

First off sorry for necroing the thread but I want to share my idea without opening a new thread.

I was wondering if for the coin system if we can make silver and gold coins have some kind of LP modifier on them. Like if you have 100 silver coins you get 1% more LP gain and if you have 1000 coins you get 10%. Also make 2 types of bags that are equip-able and hold coins. One can hold 300 and the other can hold up to 1000. The 300 would be for new players to have easy access while the 1000 would be more for advance players or villages. My reason for this is because in history gold and silver people have killed each other for as well as horde them and like to proudly display their wealth. I feel that gold and silver should somehow reflect this in the game. I read a thread about making a village ranking of who has the most then give a buff, but that excludes all the hermits in this game.

Would also be nice if we can have some kind of vault like building to hold all the coins (aka a building that requires a key to get in or only accessible to law speaker or chieftain).

Are you sure you're playing the same game the rest of us are? The only LP modifiers are from Personal Beliefs, equipment such as a pearl necklace, and short term buffs such as Warmth of Tea. Why would they add in another class of increasing LP gain of just having items in your inventory? LP gains are already high enough. If a person can't be motivated enough to keep up, don't try to do anything to increase rates because you STILL won't keep up (and will probably fall even farther behind those that do have the motivation). That's just another reason to not add more ways of increasing LP gain.

This game has enough reasons to kill each other. The fact that gold is rare enough and in high demand already makes it a reason.

And is the reason why that idea was shot down (by the players). The big villages already run way ahead of the small villages and hermitages because a village is greater than the sum of its parts.

There's no rules against bringing up old topics as long as you have something useful to add. I can't help but wonder why this became such a taboo on forums (other than as a rule against trolls).

Unique coins would both make trade more automatized than pts system imo, but this still works safelly only in towns. Still good idea though.

I guess, but still the problem is that coins at the moment are worthless and a waste to make. Bartering currently is much better, so we need something to make people want to have coins and trade with them.

The only thing I see coins could be good for is better storage for metals since the wiki showed I think a seed bag or something with 9 types of coins inside. Also minting/branding a coin seems like a interesting idea, but it only makes certain villages who make them more proud while wasting more inventory space if you had to sort each villages' coin.

Could maybe be a happiness modifier, but I have no idea what happiness does at all.

coins are worthless only because there isn't a market to spend them at

Absolutely nothing at all at this point in the game. I don't even have a clue what J&L intend for the happiness meter.

/agree

Give it a month or two, and I'm sure there will be markets. I've seen a couple of discussions about it and nobody has came to a conclusion about base valuation yet. We don't have any trading tracking tools like in other economic games, so it makes it very hard to come up with markets.
