We have the current mechanics because that used to be possible. That is just as bad just in the other direction. Although with just AD and Sodom having brickbashers in w3 there was at least some kind of stability. A stability of fear however between the two and even more so from smaller towns who would have never dared to do anything stupid since that would have meant their instant death.

Also, yes mountain vaults are not the problem. Island, swamp and underground vaults are.

It would only be able to be destroyed by hand if left open and attacked from the side, corner post's and normal walls would need a ram. It would still offer the same amount of protection for villages, only hearth vaults would be put at a disadvantage.

if someone makes a village on a island, in a swampy area or underground is it really a vault? with careful planing I don't see how they have any more protection than a normal village apart from maybe one or two more walls to go past, they are a lot harder to protect and repair then a mountain vault.

it is hard work to make a village on a island, in a swamp or underground. it would make scene that it would be harder to break into.

Are we still talking about the same game? Because none of what you said makes sense in H&H.

There is only one place for a ram and it is virtually impossible to guard. It is impossible to attack anywhere else except that one section.. This vault requires a fraction of the amount of materials and provide a larger defensive bonus than a normal village.

By "only one place" you mean anywhere along the shore, right? Otherwise, I can only see this not having been nuked because there is a place to put a ram.

/me is waiting patiently for catapults and balista as promised.

Which you may note ensures the vault against both exploitation and the construction of defensive measures protecting the ram. Plenty of room to spawn looker alts as well.
