Just make it like players: cap swim speed and boaters get away just fine.

My thoughts on it:

Ants: Can't wade, can't swim.
Toads: Can hop in shallow water, can't swim.
Rats: Can't wade, can't swim.
Rabbits: Can't wade, can't swim.
Chickens: Can't wade, can't swim.
Foxes: Can wade in shallow water at walking speed. If below 60% HP, can wade at crawling speed, can't swim. If wading below 10% HP, drowns.
Aurochsen/Cows: Can wade at walking speed, can't swim. (only because it would render rafts partially useless)
Boars/Pigs: Can wade at walking speed, can't swim. (again, because of rafts)
Mouflon/Goats: Can wade at walking speed, can't swim. (rafts)
Bears: Can wade at running speed, can swim at walking speed. If below 35% HP, can wade at walking speed, can swim at crawling speed. If swimming, and below 15% HP, drowns.
Deer: Can wade at running speed, can swim at crawling speed. If below 40% HP, can wade at crawling speed, can't swim. If swimming, and below 40% HP, drowns.

Any creature below 20% HP must crawl on land, can't wade, can't swim.
Any creature other than bears below 20% HP will drown if swimming.
Deer should not be able to heal other creatures, but creatures should be able to automatically regen HP (if they don't already), and regenerate it 2X when eating from a carcass (that too, should be implemented, if not already)

Hope this is more realistic. :D

That's neither realistic nor is it good mechanics. If you've ever gone hunting and seen an injured animal take off, if anything they're goddamn faster than normal for several miles. Also fuck bears. You can shoot them twice in the fucking head and they'll still be charging at you at full speed.

In terms of game mechanics, no. Hunting is already painfully easy enough without gimping animals who are mildly injured before hand and allowing them to be easily kited through water to slow them down.

Okay, take it easy. I've never hunted anything other than foxes, and gotten owned by them several times. Also, didn't the rules say to keep cussing to a minimum?
I'm a newbie okay. I'm trying to help you people. If you don't like the guide, you could atleast be more tactful in saying so. This post clearly states that these are my thoughts on the subject.

Them being able to swim is supposed to aid the animal and make hunting harder, not "painfully easy". Limping is what real animals do. Also, if thats bad mechanics, then make them have like 2X more HP, and make shots to vitals do a bit more damage, make shots anywhere else do a bit less damage. Please keep in mind, I don't just KNOW all about this stuff. I'm a newbie who hasn't gone hunting yet.

PS. Nice spelling.

Did you-- you seriously did. You took the time to censor the words fuck and damn and insinuate that not only was that excessive use of explicatives but, in addition, that my spelling was off or atrocious in any way, shape, or form. In the context that they're applied, the wording is not aggressive, rather used for emphasis.

If you're applying spelling to 'gimping' then welcome to the internet. Turns out that, like all living languages, words can attain new meaning and, especially in english, we can rework words to carve out the definitions we need! It's like magic except, you know, really common. Nerf, nerfing, nerfed, gimped, gimping, etc. should not cause you to so much as bat an eye when discussing a video game, at least not for their usage.

In short, your attempt to discredit me and my argument based on inane and arbitrary factors is rather silly! Nice try though.

I did not mean to discredit you based on such factors as those, I am simply pointing out that in no way is cussing necessary to merely "emphasize", as you so claimed. You could have used the bold text feature.

Fuck that. Everything you type out should be deliberate and convey a meaning with it. My meaning was meant to be coarse in that 'holy shit bears are terrifying, why in gods name did Lewis and Clark think it was a good idea to deal with Grizzly Bears?' sort of manner.

Yes, but again I would point out that such words are not necessary, although that is my opinion. It was also my opinion when I wrote the post that you criticized (I mean that in the most respectful way possible.) Also, I will point out too that your post is an opinion, and that we could argue about it for as long as we both live. In other words: Please stop this argument, and be cool. 8-)

Also, by censoring the words previously referred as unnecessary, I do not mean to offend you. Merely do as I do, and please keep in mind that you do as you do, too.

Wow. One of the hardest guys to piss off on these here forums, and you went and did it. Congratulations! You win internetz!!

But back to topic: Since you have no experience at successfully hunting in this game, can you really say you have any qualifications whatsoever on how to change it?

As far as critiques: As far as I'm concerned, all animals in this game should be able to swim. (All of them can IRL to a certain extent.) However, with swimming as lethal to players (still) as it is, I just don't see it as being reasonably and justifiably implemented. Maybe if the dangers of swimming is greatly reduced (more than it has already), then allow animals to swim out and chase hunters out of their boats. (I see bears as being the only ones capable of doing this, though.)

the part about rats not swimming made me chuckle...rats are great swimmers and are usually the first thing off a sinking ship

as for chickens and pigs not swimming go ask an old navy guy why he has a tatoo of a pig or chicken(yes he has 1)
