Natural Lower Level Caves

Postby jordancoles » Fri Jan 20, 2012 8:57 pm

I didn't find this using the search function but if it's there point me towards the appropriate thread.

The idea is simple, caves that have naturally occurring lower levels within themselves. Inception and all that. So potentially you could go inside a large cave system and find a hole within leading to level 2, and 3, and so on. I think it'd be a neat addition to caves and it's not what I'd call "game breaking"

'twould be nice, +1

but i think that if this were to be implemented there would need to be more risk to it so that not anyone can get 50str and a bear cape and go and grab some (semi)decent ore too early game, perhaps make mining more volatile to collapse, so that you were forced to use supports rather than the useful, but also filthy, zig-zag method

i guess so, i still don't like the idea of earlier better metal with little to no risk, can you imagine how many alts people would make looking for a L2 cave

The only difference would be not having to get the mats for another couple mineholes, you'd still run the exact same risks.

This would be implying of what I was thinking of caves reaching down to lower level caves though, instead of just caves being there.

If there going to be pre-made lower level caves. Maybe also add some adjusted cave graphics per level. Or at least a option to support it, for gfx modders.

A somewhat different cave generation for lower levels might be a idea to. Less caves the deeper you go makes sense. Perhaps also a different blobs versus corridors mix.

(Kinda basic stuff. So probably already crossed the dev's minds.)
