New Item : Epic Saga Of Bravery/Discovery/Slaying
Gained By : Crafting
Recipe : 1 Patchment, 0.1l ink, 3 inspiration
Requires : Sagas
Use : Song
Curio Generated : Epic Warrior's, Hunter's, Explorer's Song
Effect : 24 hours
LP : 2000
Mental Weight : 0
Softcap : (Intellegence + Psy)/2

New Action : Sing
Requires : Sagas, a song
Effects : Distributes curios to players in a radius as it drains stamina, playing a midi file based on the song type. Quality of curio softcapped by charisma. Each song distributes only ONE kind of curio.
Notes : Songs are single use, one of their ingredients is also randomly gained (I would suggest with 1 per 1000 actions). The curios given are not overly powerful, but it is definitely worth going to hear a local bard.

The overall goal here is to give players a reason to interact with lower level characters in a slightly more friendly way ("Got any good stories?")

Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by this post. You have some interesting curio ideas. I'm not sure about the new mechanic, though it could be fun to add, especially at banquets.

Likewise this is if nothing else very original (we see that so little on these forums). Song and music are essentially absent from the game and yet they were intrinsic to the social life of ancient civilizations so any representation in game will be a big plus in that regard. If this idea gets legs it's best shot of being realized is in Haven.

The shared curio effect is kind of interesting, at 0 attention the listener only expends Curio-inventory space which is generally not in short supply. Their might be an issue with acquiring several different songs, I suspect that the space requirement would start to cut into other curios and this would make for a kind of self-limiting cap to how many songs people would listen too. Also I'm not really seeing how this makes for beneficial low/high level player interaction, at 20K Sage isn't something most low level characters will invest in and use, especially if they are hermits or live in small groups. It would seem to be the largest groups that would pool all their inspirations and perform mass song performances to get the most multiplication value out of the process and they would use their own high quality inspirations rather then that of low level players. Perhaps if the Song simply bypassed the Curio system entirely and awarded the player LP directly then it would be more appealing for everyone to listen to every song.

The idea of it giving curios out was as a way to limit usage, also a players saving up their inspiration and giving it to a higher level player has an instant reward (ergo -1 weight and +500lp) even if the bard decides to play it there and then.

I suppose something I should clarify at this point is on if the bard gets the song curio or not. I'm a little divided on this but I want to err on the side of maybe something like "crowd appreciation" (again though this could be abused by alt farming). Say once a performance ends the bard is rewarded a curio based on the number/level of people who have listened?

Either that or maybe a buff (charisma, psy, int to encourage career bards) or maybe something similar to tea warmth (lp% boost)?

What do people think?

I say look at the way The Symbel works and feasting at banquets. That should give you a good idea.

I like the idea. It does fit the setting. More variety is always nice. there should never be one set path to success but a multitude of ways and I think this adds to that.

Wouldn't Charisma fit the softcap better than Psyche? Other than for village Authority and party max. members, Charisma is pretty useless after all.
Also its for "bards". Bards are usually uselessly huge piles of charisma.

Charisma is far from useless. Limited? Yes, but far from useless.

The one problem I could see from the Warriors Insight would be large villages having Murderpits and farming them off of numerous alts. Sure; It'll be a pain to make all the alts and spawn them, but if the curios good enough, why not have a small place to kill hundreds of them over and over.
