Improve Perm Death

Postby Trenix » Sun Apr 01, 2012 8:15 pm

Edit: I no longer think perm death is the problem, I think it has more to do with creatures and the inability to fight back if aggroed.

Perm death is a cool idea. However, it's a tad too harsh for such minor screw ups. For example, bumping into the wrong creature is a instant death for a newb. A thorn on a foot and leeches is also a minor thing that can easily kill a newb. Those things should not kill a player, only make them get knocked out. After a creature knocks you out, they should always walk away. Very rarely do animals eat humans in the real world. Bear attacks are highly uncommon, they almost always walk away after a human appears dead. Besides, bears don't chase humans as soon as they see them, nor do all animals.

The only ways you should permanently die is from murder and swimming. I fully understand the difficulty of the game. Yet, these minor mistakes that come with large consequences is just an annoyance for new players. Currently, players will have a bunch of different characters before they finally shine in the game, unless of course you're protected by a village.

With reincarnation it really "isn't" perma death so much as a very harsh death penalty. If anything it should be "total" perma death with no reincarnation. Don't think you are going to gain much traction for making the game easier. We LIKE it hard.

I still think animals shouldn't kill players, only harm them. With leeches, the player can always remove them. With a thorn in the foot, you start with shoes. Yet, players shouldn't have the risk of dying from animals that just randomly spawn or are found out in the open. It causes pointless and unrealistic deaths. If an animal should kill a player, it has to be extremely rare.

Go stand near a bear, see how many times you survive. Unrealistic my ass.... Maybe just admit that this isn't the game for you?

Actually, I know a thing or two about bears. They have no reason to kill humans, we are not food to them. Deaths caused by animals are done so because people were dumb enough to get close and mess around. Speaking of bears, they will charge at you if they don't know what you are. Bears have very bad vision, so talking will make them know you're not food, nor a threat, making them not charge at you. Their charges are also bluffs, their intent is to scare you away, not kill you. You can stand next to a wild bear and not be attacked, however it's not smart. I can go on and on. If you don't believe me, do a search and also check how many deaths are caused by bears. It's VERY few. You mostly will hear about how people escaped bear attacks.

Once again I think animals should only stun you. You should afterwords flee and recover. I do like this game, I just feel dying from an animal is not needed.

Reason: No, it was a perfectly valid warning based on the link you posted.
