chemistry sounds good to me
it doesn't have to be lore breaking : just tone it down to medieval level, i.e. what part of chemistry alchemists knew.
there is much potential to this idea and to this game, why limit ourselves to cooking ?
glue, for instance, would make more sense as a chemistry recipe. Some type of gunpowder could have some uses.
now alchemy would be even funnier, but not in its usual limited definition typically found in video games.
for example, colored glasses are in fact crystallized metals.
ancient musical instruments' varnishes (like Stradivarius violins) are what gives them their special sound.
etc.
alchemy = enchanting matter, not through spells but through working it while being one with it.
