A few gripes i have

Postby factnfiction101 » Sat Apr 28, 2012 7:28 pm

i want to start out by saying i like this game, i've been addicted to it for the past 2 months or something. thanks to nignognag i continued to play the game.

complaint #1 it's hard starting out, i mean really hard... i had to read a guide before i could start playing the game, the controls still confuse me (ctrl+leftmb to exit a boat), chat window seems to lose focus at times and i end up turning on/off a bunch of options that i didn't mean to (i still do this constantly), not being able to hunt starting of the game, etc... this game is not noob friendly at all.

complaint #2 Sign block hunting... it bugs me :( why can't fences be stronger or something :? signs look terrible and everyone uses them. imo you should be able to pass thru signs instead of dealing with them. it looks tacky :(

complaint #3 Raiding is so common, this is the first way i died. i've been killed many times after, but my first time was uncalled for. the game seems like a mad rush to build a palisade so you can be somewhat safe, until raiders decide to create a battering ram. yesterday, some person was stealing stuff from my house, i was so close to building a palisade :( i blocked him inside the house, he didn't have murder skill thankfully. i was able to annoy him for a few hours, this game seems to have a lot of jerks. i've got a small army of alts to try and be safer

complaint #4 collision detection with the trees and boats... god do i hate this lol

i talked a few people into playing the game with me, but they became tired of it after someone stole most of our stuff. some of my old group became tired of having to read a guide or the wiki for things. maybe when the game reaches the Beta stage it will be more user friendly to noobs.

Haven and Hearth isn't a friendly game, it really isn't. I doubt this game will get any friendly since it was seemed to be made to fill that role most other games don't want to. It's hard, it's enduring but goddamn is it fun.

About HnH reaching beta stage, that's highly unlikely to ever happen or at least in the near future so if you want to play you might as well get used to how it is now.

It's a survival game it's not meant to be to easy. I don't think its as hard as your making it out to be either. If you listen to the guides and forum advice and resist the urge to flood skills and raise things your not ready for you should be able to forage pretty well early on.

As for hunting you can hunt starting out. It's just rabbits and chickens. If you add in fishing you can get plenty of meat early on.

Signs may not be eye pleasing but do you really want to take all that time to gather enough branch's to close in a whole herd and then take the time to kill them?

People are going to raid. It's what some people enjoy. The best advice I can tell you is don't be an easy target and get to know the people around you. If ou have the time a palisade can go up very quickly once the first corner is set. If you dont have time scale down your palisade and expand later.

i'm still learning how to play the game. i can see how players that have been playing the game for a few years now would have more advantages.

:( i know the creators are working on Salem.

no, it's pretty hard starting out.

yes, but fish don't give you bones (bone glue for a palisade).

well IRL people don't use signs to trap game animals, i had the idea of using leg snare traps for larger game and cage traps for rabbits and chickens. just an idea tho

noobs are good targets that don't have a palisade, the stuff that noobs have are not worth hardly anything. it seems like it's about just being jerks. this seems to turn away people from playing this game(some of you older users probably don't have a problem with that, i can understand).

the things that bug me the most are the chat window losing focus and collision detection.

keep trying. it does get easier to start new characters once you become more familiar with the game. it's a learning experience, but we grade on a curve.

I play HnH because its this hard, and it isn't as hard as you put it, just read plenty of the "how do I?" threads and always have the wiki up. Hunting is very easy early on, walk up against a rabbit, toggle to run, right click it and you have a rabbit that will give you like 20 minutes of food while working etc. Also when I started I went solo at first but ended up joining a village so I could get some hands on experience and have people that I could bombard with questions. Think of new players as early teens, and experienced players as late teens and adult, old are best suited to teaching the new on how to do things.
