How about sending a hash sum of the launched client's source to the server with it checking the sum on connection? If the client is modified, it will have a different hash sum.

You can just hook another program onto default client. Kinda like Stonesense for DF.

Anyway, the blame lies squarely on Loftar's shoulders. If you're going to send a piece of information to the client, it *must* be presented to the player in an easily readable form. But seeing how Salem's default client "works", I guess he's just a fan of anti-ergonomics.

Actually, there's some Ender features that seem good but no so "hax". These are:
1. Show movement tracking (those lines, y'know)
2. Hide, maybe?
3. X-Ray (It's cool to check the buildings' condition)
4. Zooming in and out
5. Moving your cam with mousewheel
6. Quality shown
7. Fullscreen expanding your area of view which doesn't resize your bottom menu
8. Movable and hideable minimap, chat
9. Three hotkey belts which are also movable
10. Study window
11. Grid?

So, actually only nightvision and radar do affect the gameplay making things easier. Others are just interface features.

1. Those movement lines are a terrible feature. They make it so much easier for people to chase their target. Why the fuck should an entire--very important--facet of haven and hearth be made easier with a fucking hacked client feature? In a game that revolves around permanent death, why is the concept of death being mitigated?

2. Again, I think Loftar and Jorb intended things to be hidden. That is why there is the yellow border around objects when you walk behind them.

3. Same with number 2.

4. Being limited in your view is again an important feature. Although zooming in and out is not so terrible, it should be removed. Or at least limited.

5. This is a fine feature. Pretty sure it was implemented by loftar--not positive though.

The rest are fine features.

In a sense the game has been sterilized by these clients. They remove most of HnH's fundamental challenges--coined by many as "grinding". Every simple nuance is losing its impact on the game because these clients seek to destroy and make things easier. The uncertainty of foraging and approaching animals/people, basic hiding and being limited by your view window. Why should this game be made so fucking easy? I say it again and again. There is a reason everyone is bored: the game has been ripped to shreds. Everybody does the same shit because these clients give them to tools to do so. People complain about things as being grindy. Well, here's the fucking truth. You have to work for reward, and the process ain't pretty. Why should we be allowed these clients that make things so easy... that neutralize the aspects of the game that diversify its players.

And just a little side note to further my ranting.

I think its fucking pathetic how these big factions in world 6 are all pointing fingers about bug abuse and shit.

Look at Dis. God knows what the fuck their client allows them to do, with all of those special tools in the menu with batman symbols etc.
ImageImage

And they sit here bitching at Winterfell about "bugabusing"? What the fuck.

Clearly, if the client is user-restricted and hidden from the public it has shit that gives them a big advantage.

Using these fucking clients is bug abusing. Dis acts so fucking righteous--like they are trying to be noble players who don't "abuse" aspects of the game. "Playing the game like it was mean't to be played" my ass.

And the same goes with fucking Wintefell. God knows what the fuck kind of client shit they are pulling. Even if they are using Ender's, they are still warping game mechanics to their benefit.

All of us who use these clients are bug abusers. It goes far beyond the bullshit about how "OMG if U used DAT TANNING BUG U ARE ABUSDER". All of us get away with shit that is, in reality, a bug, or abuse... or whatever the fuck clever wording you want to use.

I guess my point is that Loftar needs to get off of his ass and save his "baby" from further damage.

If you truly loved your game you would actually listen to suggestions by the players. You would get rid of your monumental ego when it comes to critiquing. How many suggestions have been implemented into the game in like 4 years?

You would give us some sort of precise agenda, or plan or fucking something rather than "Well, essentially we are re-doing the whole game", a non-vague comment about modded clients, some kind of hope for the future, a single post about what you are are just working on in real life?

You have 5 hours to try to fix server crash bug with putting a boar into a boat but no time to realize a plan, or itinerary, a POST, an update, a message with some meat on its bones? One post with something like "This is what I've done today regarding Haven and Hearth".

People who dedicated themselves to your game sit in the dark. Is that what you wanted? Was that your vision for haven and hearth? Is it just a personal project, and the public players don't really mean much? I don't mean that question with malice. I think its a legitimate one. At least we can better understand your viewpoint. Do you not want the stress of having to listen to us complain, cry, and bitch?

I wonder what that Batman icon does.

Anyway, I have to agree with ewlol here. Custom clients suck ass, kill it with fire. However, with that said, the standard client window NEEDS to be resizable and some tasks such as filling troughs and filling cheese trays need to be much easier to do. Add a scrolling option to them like you did with signposts or something. No need to injure our wrists from playing HnH, especially since apparently some people masturbate while playing this game. It's just too much.

I was so disappointed when custom clients were released on Salem :(

I agree with everything Ewlol had to say about custom clients.
You may have foiled the plans of BAD-EVIL this time, but there is no rest for the wicked.
