Smaller amounts of water & more expensive boats

Postby Xuvian » Sat Jun 16, 2012 3:48 pm

Hi! Actually map contains a big amount of lakes and rivers. Because of it nobody travels at land - everyone is using boats and no one hunt deep in forest - everyone is searching animals at shore. That's why i think that there is too much water.

So, maybe that would be good idea to make amounts of water much smaller? It would change the gameplay - wells would be more important, hunting would look other than now (leather is too easy to get, then players would need to make groups for hunt). Also foraging would be more nice. There should be just some rivers (but long as hell) and really big lakes.

Also to don't give a big advantage to players who spawn near river/lake at start of the world - boats should need some boneglue, and rafts some leather.

What do you think about it? And sry for english

Ehhh it's still giving advantage players spawning near water. Nevermind, idea is shitty >.<

Those are the rules. Obide by them.

On topic though:

What's so wrong about Boats and Rafts that require them to have added materials? How do they give players an advantage by spawning near the river/lake? If you spawn right now..there's a good chance of just finding a random boat left behind on the shoreline. So you wouldn't even need to make one yourself. As of right now both items are tedious to make. As it requires alot of wood. Not to mention rafts don't have a main function for common use unless moving a large amount of things at once across rivers.

That's untrue. The land masses are WAY bigger then the rivers and lakes. I know I've spawned right smack dab in the middle of a massive land mass before. I had to walk quite a ways just to get to the nearest river.

How else are you supposed to get water by the way if you haven't gotten the ability to make a well yet?

I just think, that there is still too much water. Nobody walks on foot, because there isn't a good reason for it, everyone can get everywhere easily on boat. Hunters are mainly searching for animals just on shores, I think that more funny would be to go deep in forest and hunt something in group of 2-3 people. I also think that making village deep in land near well with good water is more funny. "In deep" I mean that walking to nearest river would take at least an hour. Isn't continuous traveling just in boat boring?

#Edit
Yes, I read it and understood. Making boats and rafts harder to build would stop people for a bit from using this form of traveling at the beginning of the new world. Because then there still would be a demand for leather and bones for palisade more than traveling at water. I also thought that it will delete advantage of people hunting from boats (at the beginning of the new world), coz first they would need bones to build them, but i forgot about shores, so that not solves anything.

About land I said bit above. About the well - to build it you need just 400 LP and some exploration to find strings for rope, so that's not too much.

But anyway at first I forgot about shores. My idea is giving advantage to people spawning near water (they're possible to hunt from shores), so that's shitty idea >.<

I know you're not good with the english language, but did you read my post? You just repeated your original post basically. There are still villages hidden deep in the forests. People still travel by foot.

FictionRuy, I understand what you mean. To me it's the same with the "+1". But understand me that my language is a problem. If you look at the number of messages that I have written and knowing that I look at the forum every day since the beginning of W4, see why not publish anything long.

Sorry if it upsets my +1, but the google translator is very bad to write texts sufficiently serious.

I don't think it'll matter if there's more or less water. People will still use rivers to travel because you can travel 2-3x faster by river than by foot with no stamina drain.

@FictionRyu: if you accidentally make a double post, you can delete the latter one with the big [x] next to the [Quote] button as long as nobody has posted after you. ;)

I know that already. But that's why I had to edit becuase the post I left under my first one was there. And I wanted to delete the second one but with this lag the site was being wonky and I had clicked the first post after it didn't go to the second.

Haha, you don't need to add this amendment to your statements. It really doesn't matter. =)
