Personal Claims

Postby LadyV » Wed Jun 27, 2012 12:51 pm

With so many abandoned claims or massive ones I wanted to come up with a reasonable solution without over favoring village vs. private. I came up with three ideas.

First private claims should be subject to inheritance limits. If your full change you lose 75% just like stats. Full tradition loses 25%. This would weaken the big LP banks some players maintain to try and subvert death penalty.

The second idea is to allow private claims to remain free of upkeep as long as they are occupied. If you don't log in after a certain time they begin to decay just as a village claim with no authority. Much like a idol decaying a claim stake would as well, eventually freeing up the land again.

My last suggestion is raise their cost. Private land ownership should not be so easy. People create multiple claims to easily contributing to the problems.

Didn't you see the thread literally right below yours?

It deals with the same situation. In that thread people have been coming up with their own suggestions.

The logistics of losing claimed area upon death is very iffy and honestly may just end up being more detrimental than not, affecting those who aren't abusing this system.

Upkeep is a very weird topic since what if someone plans on not logging in for a week or two how would that differentiate from going fully inactive?

Raising cost does not help. All it would do is create another barrier for newer players since they would need to invest more of their valuable LP into claims.

I have seen every single one of these suggestions prior except for the last one (that I can or can't recall). The last one doesn't solve anything, other than slowing the rate of expansion for those that use them as LP banks and making it more difficult for those that have legitimate uses.

Simple solution: you die, you don't get anything back from the claim. Heck, I like what currently exists in Salem: any time you remove the claim, you get nothing back period. (Doubt that will stick around, but.... <shrug>).
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
