Offline Mode Again

Postby ralphierocks » Fri Aug 31, 2012 8:16 pm

Skipping the typical introductions to most gaming forums I visit, I figured I would get down to the chase.

I HAVE read the other thread about this, and I read it with great disgust towards the mods mocking the person trying to improve this "game". I am new here, and this game was recommended by paulsoaresjr to his fans. I created an account and played for roughly 10 minutes before I realized how terrible it actually is.

I'm not going to rage about the "game" itself as it's still in development and I can see past most of the flaws for that reason alone, but the one thing this "game" absolutely needs is OFFLINE MODE. The formula is there and with a little effort this thing could be really great and get respectable reputation and maybe a half decent community. I read all about "how hard" it would be to make a client/server mod etc etc, and I looked over the spaghetti code that was haphazardly thrown together. It would appear that the dev's don't even know what does what anymore and have more less slowed down on the progress of this "game" to work on others. Maybe it's time to pass the torch?

The game lags to the point that you cannot even play it or rather enjoy it. I'm on a 100mbit connection and I was lagging every 4-5 seconds. One task would be completed easily while the next would freeze leaving my characters feet moving and nothing happening for 10-15 seconds. If you upgrade the server to accept the load then you will have to start charging people to play this "game" and that won't happen. Sure you will keep the 10-40 die hard fans, but you'll lose everyone else, and then the "game" won't have a point as there is no questing or the like added to the "game". Adding support for lan/ip play would be the solution at this point, because it's overly obvious to even the most ignorant person that your server(s) cannot properly handle the "game" any longer, and as stated above, charging people will never be in your favor. Unfortunately for me, and most people that have a decent library of actual games to play will simply fly by this one not giving it a second thought, which is a shame because as mentioned, the game has a lot of potential.

Mods feel free to respond like children to this thread, and I expect some flaming from this wonderful community but the facts are written there and arguing only validates those thoughts. Cheers.+

The lag. I am personally quite stumped by it. It seems that nearly a year ago when the games max pop was 1000 or so there was LESS lag. Now a days the pop rarely breaches the 200 mark. Alas, it is 100% server-sided and nothing we can do, although if you want to give them 2000$ or so i'm sure it would work out :) The game. The game itself is not terrible, it actually becomes quite in-depth as you play. Playing it with friends and having set goals in matters of size, combat, or quality make the game just that much more fun. As you stated above, you haven't played more than 10 minutes, i'm guessing you didn't get further than a wicker basket, a bunny, and a few cones. Be warned, there is a large learning curve, but i've dedicated a few years of my life to this, and I don't regret any of it. Mistakes? Sure. But I never regret the time I spent on it. The mods. Since there are no real set rules, and the ones that are are commonly violated, it is about 95% up to the mods what goes and what doesn't, the other 5% being federal law and all that. Say you meet burgingham on a semi-offensive post. You're gonna get banned. On the other hand, say a wild swaginati appears, he's going to lulz with you. Potje will correct you and so on. It depends on their personalities. (I'm not ripping on any of the mods here, just saying what I see) The dev's. This game has a large halt in development, the devs are creating a new game salem. It is supposedly more 'fun' and 'profitable' but It personally disgusts me. It is their baby, making hnh the older brother that is severly lacking attention, and throwing a temper tantrum (Represented by ainran and WF epeen-offs). And it is just that, a game. You're free to leave, no need making a whole new thread just to rant about how horrible the game is. Hope this helps answer your questions, also, wrong thread. I think?

Thanks for understanding what I was trying to say. I played the game, experienced the lag. I watched many videos on youtube about this and I thought on my 100mbit connection surely I would not lag, low and behold I did. So I immediately understood this to be server side as my pc is a gaming pc. I then googled an offline mode, it directed me back here where I read page after page of people in the community (mods included) insulting and/or mocking someone that was actually interested in making an offline lan/ip mode. I'm new, typically I do the warm welcome deal, but honestly between the lag and the way people were bashing that guy I said screw it, let me get directly to the guts. If you can get passed the lag, then I'm sure there is a world of gaming out there for you, and I never said the game itself was terrible, the concept, options, etc seem very exciting. Again, I'm new and I can tell the game has been more less abandoned, and traded off for another. As this being a freeware game I just say release the source publicly and let some that still has some passion take over and fix this beast. That's just my opinion though, not here to make "friends" or take it on the chin. Thanks for your educated, constructive reply.

Wow..the posts detailing to send this to hell shows how much of a dick certain can be. The guy was simply stating his opinion/view on this game. He did have some very valid points.

I don't think this should be thrown to Hel. I do however think it should be moved from the C&I sub-forum to the IoB.

Why so mad bro? Hurt your feelings? It's just a game, and it's just my opinion or is this Nazi Germany where no one is allowed to have an opinion, are we in 1933? I'm allowed to have an opinion as your allowed to ignore my thread.

Fixed that for you, the mods are here for a raisin, and despite public opinion they respond fairly well to what needs to responding to.
