wow people don't know the difference between seas and oceans...

yes there are seas near Germany but none that are so massive they would block an entire edge of a map!

yes loosely inspired by, thats why we don't have a bunch of things that don't fit the area and theme! you'll never see an elephant, even though Hannibal came through the area with elephants when attacking Rome during the 2nd Punic war. you'll never see an ocean because they're too far from the area the game is supposedly set.

the myths and legends of an area won't include things not from that area. you don't hear about merepeople in the middle of a desert, you don't hear about magical springs near a coastal village...

summary: if theres no ocean there, there will be no ocean in the myths. if you're basing something on a myth even loosely you're not going to completely change it!

It would never work. First of all that would mean that lots of land would be exposed to raids.

The only reason for having oceans/sea would be having different continents like one for PvP and PvE, another one for PvE only...but i don't think that suits Jorb and Loftar idea of the game ...

Here's a thought: you always start on the PvP/PvE landmass and have to travel to the PvE only landmass via ship.
I'm thinking pretty big ships with storage comparable to wagons that cannot travel down rivers and can only be built on sand.

E.G. get your big ship made on land, push it down into the water at a slow slow pace (helped by str), load it up and cross the sea, and yes - you can bring some livestock on deck. (Maybe longboat style appearance.)
Externally, it works similarly to a raft - load things on like you would normally, but multiple people can climb on.

However there's a bonus feature: the hold. The door is a hatch on the ship - right clicking it makes you go inside, right clicking it with an item (as if offloading) makes you carry it inside. From inside, right clicking the ladder makes you go up, and right clicking it while holding something will make you bring it up to the deck with the object still in hand. You can right click the ship to drop it on the deck.

Inside the hold you can interact with objects as normal. This allows you to perform normal functions of life at sea. Additionally, you can catch fish when the ship is not moving.

tl:dr
Ship carries your stuff to promised land, and there's a hold you can eat in.

You mean like Tobacco and silk?

Also Slavic and Germanic is different to Germany. The area that is referenced does have a rather large Western Coast, from the netherlands, around denmark and the baltic and up the coast of Norway, taking in a lot of sizeable islands.

I agree that different continents for PvP and PvE wouldn't fit with J & Ls thoughts, but I disagree that the only reason for different continents would be for that reason. While I think different continents are out of the picture for HnH, I think the coastline should definitely be considered, with a new colour of water, that which it is only safe to enter in a larger boat. But I'm not holding my breath, we'll see wolves and horses first.
