Campsite

Postby Etherdrifter » Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:26 pm

A hearth fire next to a leanto in which its owner is sleeping acts as a mini claim. Extending a 3x3 theft protection around it. Trespass does not register. Vandalism does. If a player owns a claim this effect no longer occurs. Permissions may not be set on this mini-claim.

Really a minor buff for new players to help encourage them to stick around. Limited enough not to devalue a proper claim but strong enough to make it worth the positioning.

what happens when someone spams these 'mini claims' all around someone's actual claim? for now a leanto can hold a container and a bed and while a player is sleeping in that leanto it takes theft to take the container out, or vandalism to destroy it, however you avoid the problem I mentioned because by extending your claim over the leanto you can still break it...

I would say that a bed shouldn't take a slot in the leanto though so noobs can sort of protect 2 containers, but thats as far as I'd want it taken.

The title "Campsite" doesn't really fit with your idea.

But as for the idea itself, ImAwesome really summed it up.

Well I suppose I should state the effect does not occur if a claim is on that location (or would be on that location). It does not cause trespass scents, I did mention that.

However an extra slot would be nice. I figured more this could protect a couple of drying racks, the leanto and maybe another 2 storage items. The protection only lasts while the player is offline, it vanishes when they log in again. Ergo effectively one per character.

It doesn't take a whole lot to get the LP to get Yeomanry and than post your claim.

If you don't have Yeomanry yet, you don't own anything you can't get back in less than a day anyways.

And if you find something like an ant empress, you just store it in your inventory.

I like the idea if you can find a way to prevent people from spamming them. Having the claim disappear when the person logs off totally defeats the purpose IMO though.

maybe make there be a certain distance were it could occur? say within 10-15 tiles of one claim there could not be another campsite claim, sort of like regular claim restrictions only bigger
i really need to find a good signature

I understand your desire to protect items. The problem is there are enough regular abandoned claim around the world as it is. To add the countless mini ones you suggest would only make a bad problem worse. All the new players would would die or quit leaving these claims everywhere. Then you would have the players who would abuse them to contain an enemies expansion.

The only way I can think of to make your idea work would be to create a new claim type. Maybe call it a squatters claim or something like that. It would be like a regular claim in all respects except any claim above it can expand over it and claim it. That way its more a temporary thing than a permanent annoyance.

I'm still unsure of the value of a mini-claim over a lean-to you're sleeping in? It counts as theft to steal from the lean-to as is, so what's the benefit of having a temporary mini-claim? Furniture you make at that level is trivial so there's no sense it giving that vandalism protection.
