The Romans crest was made from horsetail hairs...while the Germanic warriors mainly didn't wear helmets, more of the Gallic and British Celts did - some of them with some kind of Crest (maybe even made of boarhair) ...or something like this wonderful thingie:

Actually only legionaries would have used horse hair. Centurions would have use bright plumed feathers from peacocks or other rare birds. Centurion helmets also tended to be embossed with silver or ornately gilded if important enough.

However thank you for bringing up the point of the two different helmets. I thin there is room for both. Haven certainly need more variety. :)

Post counts + 1.

You want me to further explain why i "+1" the topic without more words?

I like this idea because it gives more choices for helmets and something more to do with boars and bronze.

Crested helmets tended to be more a southern Europe tradition. The Romans merely imitated the culture they were in to be less intrusive. Purely Central European helmet traditions were more simple and practical. Spikes were more common in those.

It's a cool idea, but wouldn't it make the Image a little useless? Unless you needed a bunch of metals to make this new helmet. Then that would make sense.

Not really. Every helm in the game has a purpose and stage of use. If you were to progress without outside help you would probably start with the boars tusk helmet or the druid's helmet. Obviously once you had metals you could move to bronze, soldier or if you were lucky dragon helm.

Any piece of armor that achieves it purpose is useful. Take current world. With the growing quality of leather the boars tusk helmet continues to gain ability while the dragon is still limited by metal. It may not have surpassed a dragons stage but its slowly catching up.

I'm totally on the side of putting this in the game, though I'd rather have a bronze age hoplite helmet :(
