Haven and Hearth Variants

Maybe this has been done before, but anybody else dream of haven and hearth variants? Where the basic mechanics are very similar, but the theme is different?

Top of my list would be an East Asian theme. Maybe warring states period Japan. Ancestor worship could be integrated much better with perma death, and politics/warfare and crafting could be quite interesting. Also lots of cool monsters to choose from if you wanted to have a few.

Next would probably be cusp-of-industrialization U.S. (not necessarily historically accurate) Let people enjoy the nitty gritty crafting of basic items for when they are out on the fronteer, only except that it is also possible to build factories, warehouses, railroads etc. Hard to get away from some kind of NPC aspect there to support production/consumption of goods at a scale where you are talking about hundreds of thousands of people though.

I think a lot could be done with a non-permadeath form of haven. There'd be a lot more combat, a lot more griefing, and a slower loss of players due to attrition.

But there'd definitely need to be mechanic changes to make it workable. Costs for doing crimes for example since there's no risk of being ended permanently.

It hurts me on the inside when people talk about HnH with no permadeath.

Permadeath is both the greatest feature and the greatest flaw that haven has. But Haven has incredible merit as a game outside the single "gimmick" that permadeath is.

Mostly I hate that haven combat is so neat and so complex, but so difficult to break into that I don't feel it's worth my time. I don't want to spend hours and hours hunting for people to fight. And I'm really not into the idea of grinding characters to get them killed while I learn how to fight.

And this is all before we even find out if I'm any good at haven combat XD Honestly though it's a lot of clicking apparently and carpal tunnel nixes that for me anyway.

Honestly I don't want Haven to be non-permadeath, I want a game like haven to be non-permadeath. This market has room for a lot more titles before saturation.
