Go make your own game.

New content may be the actual answer to different cultures thrown into a H&H-like game, even though that will not happen.
What i would personally be most interested in would be eastern culture content (mostly Japan).
I've thought about a Post Apocalyptic H&H in the past, as i'm a huge fan of post apocalyptic scenarios/games/movies etc, and i'm not sure how that could work.

Don't Starve is a single player Haven and Hearth variant (and much faster paced)

Project Zomboid is the style you'd want then, it will have multiplayer in the near future that meets the permadeath style.
They threw in split screen a few months ago as a test.

I've been following that game for about 2 years now. It's fantastic. I really recommend it for Sandbox & Survival fans in a (really good) Zombie Apocalypse scenario.

it's not multiplayer.

And my variant would be dinosaurs. just imagine. everyone is a caveman. go hunt dinosaurs. kill other cavemen. no need for 1000s of items. everything can be minimal. because there is no super items everyone is much on the same level so you can just go out in the world kill some dinosaurs , if failed you get eaten. restart go back again.
no fuss just playin and having fun

I honestly feel that a steampunk crafting dependant sandbox style game would have a lot of room to be awesome. Especially considering steampunk is often all about inventors and their crazy gadgets.
