New character timer/limit

Postby Servant_Girl » Fri Jun 28, 2013 11:12 am

Hello everyone, I am the Servant_Girl.

I've been lurking over the forums and it seems that alt griefing is becoming a problem.

Now let me start by saying that playing as a raider or a bandit or highwayman is not the same as plain out griefing. This is in part a role-playing game and people NEED to fill the roles of bandits and raiders in order for the game world to be complete. Alt spam, however, has no place with in the game world.

Now surely there must be a way to prevent flat out, 'griefing for the sake of griefing' with out nerfing those who wish to play as the 'bad guys' and without buffing those who wish o turtle up and be peaceful.

My idea is this, a server side timer in between character creations, say one to two hours. Long enough that alt spam and alt botting would not be viable, but short enough that it shouldn't hinder any legit players. In addition have a maximum number of characters, maybe five? Again low enough to prevent alt spam/botting but enough that people who want to have a craft/fighter/forager ect can do so.

Now I know this can't prevent 100% of botting/griefing/exploitation, nothing can. However I do feel like this would greatly hinder alt griefing and alt botting with out hurting the people who aren't.

would only slow you down if you don't have enough accounts....and there is no limit on number of accounts.

Forth paragraph, third and forth sentence.

I realize people may already have some qued up, but those would run out. Like I said nothing can stop this sort of thing 100%.

well 5 characters per account, with 100 accounts thats 500 characters...and no delay on making them.

so nothing you said in that post fixes the issue I pointed out in my post. were you confusing my mention of unlimitted accounts with your idea of limitting characters?

All hearthlings know that massive abusing is the most effective way to enforce changes. ;)

Ah, I hadn't thought of people registering new accounts simply to have 5 more alts to cheat with. See like I said nothing can reduce the number to 0% but that does not mean we should never start attacking the problem. Palisade will not stop 100% of raiders, buts it helps deter them. We need to start SOMEWHERE or else it will just get more and more out of hand.

Also there will still be a delay as you have to register each account and it would start the timer upon creating the first character for each account. This also adds to the effort it would take to alt spam and therefor reduce the number of people willing to do so.

I suppose the truly dedicated will still go though all the trouble of: Registering a new E-mail address, Registering a new account, Creating a new alt, and repeat while he waits the hour for both accounts.

And if people go to this much trouble to abuse the system, ip and account ban. simple. Now in order to keep cheating they have to change IP in addition to getting a new E-mail and a new account for 5 more alts. Most people who actually want to play will stop and only the people who really really just want to grief will keep trying.

Alt griefing has always been the problem, OP ruined any expectation of haven knowledge in the first sentence.
