Trees & Special Uses.

Postby FunnyNoob » Sun Jun 30, 2013 12:01 am

Hey there. Since HnH has a good few tree types, why not give trees special purposes?

Like for example:

Birch - Less wood is needed per tick of time to burn, like maybe 1 branch = 2 ticks instead of 1 tick?
Oak - Produce more charcoal?
Willow - Gives bows extra damage when made from it, like say Bow Damage(Like normal calculation) + Q/10?

These are only a few Ideas.

Please comment.

Thanx.

That would have pretty interesting effects! Trees would start to have different values, they do to an exeunt now, but this would add a whole new factor to land claim consideration and raiding target consideration.

It would be nice for the new yew tree to have a special purpose.

oak is a large tree so you already get more charcoal from it than you do smaller trees

as for the rest of it:
a branch is a branch...would you really like to light an oven and come back to all your food being burnt because you accidently used a branch from the wrong tree?

willow isn't a wood traditionally used for bows(yew is and has been added to the game) but when looking at a bow how would you know if it was made from 1 type of wood or another? if you have 2 bows at quality 50, 1 made from a special wood and 1 made from another type of wood, unless you make sure to keep them seperate you'd easilly get them mixed up. this could also cause issues with trade as you'd never know if your special bow was special til after you bought it got home and tried it...

I'll agree there should be more special things from different tree types, but as for the wood it should all be counted the same.

It would be nice to come up with ideas, maybe still in the crafting arena, giving a bonus or detrimental effect when used in crafting, just not applying it to trade items or weaponry. For example, a certain type of wood would speed up the drying process on racks, certain boughs make a better spruce hat or bed, seeds could be used to add effects in cooking recipes, etc.

Wikipedia -
Most parts of the tree are toxic, except the bright red aril surrounding the seed, it has also been suggested that yews were planted at religious sites as their long life was suggestive of eternity, or because being toxic they were seen as trees of death.

Which made me think, maybe there is a purpose for it which we haven't discovered yet - a bad one, lol, you know how evil the devs sense of humour can be. ;)

First thing first:

1: I said that its only suggestions.
2: Wood Type could have different appearance?
3: Sarcastic part... Have you ever heard about Tool Tips(Ranger's Bow,Wood Type: Yew, Quality: 50)?

Thanx for the comments peeps.

Yew Planks - Made by cutting yew logs into planks as a additional options.
Planks are 1x3, thin and narrow piece of wood that are used to make bows or tools.
They are flexible and as such, 1 plank is needed for 3 pieces of strings.

Yew Bow can be a bow that is in between ranger bow and wooden bow.
160 base damage and has a perk that grants it faster aim speeds than a ranger bow.
The material cost can be increased by requiring bone glue and leather.

1x Plank / 1x Bone Glue / 1x Leather / 3x String

And the possibility of tweaking all bow aim speeds to scale with this new bow:

Sling - 1x
Wooden Bow - 2x
Yew Bow - 2.5x
Ranger Bow - 4x

You can probably craft a hatchet with a plank, giving access to middle tier axe and tools maybe.

Hatchet - 140 base damage, crafted with a plank and metal. Basically provides a 'step up' from stone axes.

1x Plank / 1x Bar of Wrought Iron

Looks like this:

Actually if you incorporate 'planks' in general or some kind of wood that takes a while to cut out and sand down, into a useful handle for axes and such, then it would work out pretty well.

Swords needs a value increase, they aren't simply a block of wood with iron bars, it's actually intricate with the glue and strings/rope around the handle, and then gluing a piece of leather on the handle. In most cases leather isn't used unless it's some sort of grip that is needed, where cloth is suffice instead of leather.

Adding the bone glue, string, and leather into the sword crafting would boost up it's value.
