Forum Software: Open Links in New Window/Tab

Postby cobaltjones » Sun Jun 30, 2013 10:29 pm

Why doesn't this forum act like every other website on the entire internet?

It's a tiny detail really, but it's kind of annoying when I'm following links from threads and close the window accidentally because I forgot it didn't open in its own space. Also makes it impossible to read threads as well as linked sources at the same time, without opening the links independently myself.

Surely this is a simple fix, no?

Also, allow us to have more posts per page via some sort of preference (or honestly just change the board default). Kind of stupid how active threads have 200some pages where on a normal forum they'd have like 50. 10 posts per page is a navigation nightmare.

EDIT: And another thing! What's up with the forum automatically truncating any image over a certain width? Surely there's got to be a better solution that this? In a forum where game screenshots which are 1000+ pixels wide it seems kinda dumb that I have to click on the image and open it in a new window just to see the whole thing.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that this particular forum software is awful. That's all.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean, the links don't open in new tabs? I just use the middle mouse button when I click them, myself... opens links in a new tab on any site. What browser are you using?

Obviously I can manually force them to open independently, but the problem is that the default behavior is to open the link in the same window, which is opposite of how every other site (especially forum software) on the internet works.

it seems incredibly dated - less advanced than a forum i was admin for in 2006.

The 10 posts per page thing is what really gets me. And there's not even an option in the usercp to extend it.

Makes simple reading of large threads a massive headache.

That has a workaround in Chrome and Firefox (see below) but yes posts-per-page should really be an option

removed this link, now it's on the bottom because I'm trendy

There ya go. Works for me on Firefox with Greasemonkey, links in posts and forum topic links open in new tab, that's all I could think of for that. Also resizes images to fit on screen and shit. Can't guarantee it'll work perfect on whatever you're using, I only use FF.

Edit: http://pastebin.com/VAZAd5gY this one's even less shitty.
